Waiting for NVC, Consulate seems unaware. Suggestions?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a course of action. My wife lives in Cuba and we are currently waiting for the NVC to give us her interview date. According to the NVC, our case was completed on March 5th, but no interview yet. I went to Cuba last week and I went to the US embassy to ask about the case. They found the case in their computers but it showed that "the case has not arrived Havana yet". The lady who talked to me was amazed that the case had been approved but it had not arrived Havana. She asked me if I was sure it was approved. It seems most CR-1 cases are forwarded by the NVC to the consulate in Havana as soon as they are approved, and the consulate assigns the interview date. I'm not sure why our case is different, why the NVC is holding it so they can assign the interview date themselves, but I'm worried about it. The NVC tells me to stay put until they find a date, but the consulate tells me it is strange they have not received the case. I don't know what to do...

Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, I believe that lady at the embassy had given you the wrong info as CR1 applicants are scheduled by the NVC first, then they send an email to you containing the interview appointment letter, then they forward your case to the embassy. K visas are usually the ones scheduled by the embassy. This is a quote from the NVC procedure manual to give you a better understanding:

9 FAM 42.63 PN4.2 Reviewing the Files

"When the file is complete, the NVC will schedule an appointment for an

interview with a consular officer and send the IV appointment letter to every

valid address associated with the case record before forwarding the case file

to the post."

Usually interview appointments are scheduled on the last week of the following month for some countries or the second week of the following month for most countries but that all depends how busy your embassy is with appointments...some embassies are soo busy that it might take 2 to 6 months to get an appointment.

Keep calling NVC, checking for status.

If/When you get ambiguous information, ask for a Supervisor, then ask directly -

WHEN WILL YOU SCHEDULE MY INTERVIEW?

Is my casefile in AP (Additional Processing) or not?

-------------

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Good Luck !

Darnell, I didn't know you could ask the NVC operators to talk to a supervisor. Today it is exactly 8 weeks since my case was approved so on Monday I'll call the NVC and ask to talk to an operator.

Thank you!!!
