Can a non-resident US citizen sponsor/co-sponsor an LPR petition?

My mother-in-law is LPR and has filed a petiton for her <21 son. Does she have to maintain status/domicile in US in order for her petiton to be approved in future?

Also, I am US citizen and would most likely co-sponsor on this petition as a household member. I might take up a job in Saudi Arabia. Would I still be able to co-sponsor or the fact that I am no longer maintaining domicile in US will disqualify me?

To be a sponsor/joint sponsor, you must reside in the U.S.

The instructions for the I-864 state that.

of course your MIL has to reside in the US or she will loose her GC.
