Passport name vs. GC name

Hi,

I have my AOS interview in a month's time and I'm hoping I'll have my GC in a few weeks or months after the interview. I'm planning a trip outside US in end of September, and while booking the tickets I need to use my name as it appears on my passport. My passport has my maiden name, but when my Green card comes, it will have my married name. Since I will be leaving and entering the US based on my GC, will it be a problem that my passport is in my maiden name? I am planning to take my marriage certificate with to prove the name change, but if someone has gone through this situation and can comment, that would help me relax.

After you receive your greencard, you can go and check your passport name at any Indian consulate. We got ours done and it only took about 3 days.

I went back to Germany for 3 weeks in February. When I entered the US on my way back, I was asked for my passport and greencard. When the officer saw that they had different names, he asked for my marriage certificate, which I showed him and everything was great. No problems at all. Just make sure it's either the original or certified copy of your marriage certificate, a normal paper copy is not enough.

My passport won't expire until 2017, so I will travel like that until then.

why don't you go to your consulate and get a new passport with your married name before you travel.. or bring a copy of marriage certificate,passport and GC with you.

Marriage certificate should say for example "Navina Jivani and Amit Batada". This is how you can prove that your married name is Navina Batada.

Thanks... that's what I was hoping would be sufficient. It's just easier if your marriage certificate has your married name mentioned somewhere.
