I am newly registered member to VJ but I have been looking at the board for some time now. I will be traveling to Ghana to visit my fiancee in Mid-May and we want to apply for the fiancee visa when I arrive I will be staying 10-14 days. What items are needed for us to apply? I know that I will need my divorce decree from my previous marriage (which I have) anything thing else? I am a little confused about should he start the process before I arrive and then do certain things when I get there?

Also, about how long will it take to find out if he is approved when we go to apply? Because if they deny him he says that he would want to get married in Ghana..which I don't want to do (just b/c I want to get married here in my church) but if that will speed up the process I guess I will. Any and all information is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Have them sign the G-325a, letter of intent, copy of their birth certificate, copy of passport bio page and passport stamps if any for show being in the same place if need be: for the K-1 process

Read the guides. You wont be able to apply while in Ghana and be approved. Its at least a 6 month process with the Ghana embassy!

If you decide to get married there- read those guides.

PM me if you need more.

take alot of pictures.. :bonk::bonk: a whole lot at different locations, because after all is said and done..you have to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the relationship is legit. Gh has a somewhat reputation for fraud marriages. Just like Midge said..follow her recommendations. Everything else is case specific and just send her or myself an email and we will be than happy to help in anyway we can.

Luckily you would be applying through CSC, fingers crossed if you have all you need, the case should move pretty fast...keywords here.."fingers crossed"..

All the best..

You, the US citizen mail the petition to one of the service centers here in the US. You do not go to the embassy and apply. The process takes several months. This won't happen during your scheduled trip in May.

As others have stated go ahead and begin gathering the needed documents and evidence for the petition and later interview.

Have a fun trip. Best of luck.

Ayt, first of all its a process..theres no way he's coming with you..thats without a doubt. So keep that in mind. You have to apply here and when the case is approved it would be sent to the US Embassy in Gh where the rest would be processed, he does his interview, police reports and blah, then ofcourse the interview. If you guys get married before you leave, then that put you in a whole new visa category which is k-3 and generally it takes longer.

Averagely when u apply here for the K1..you should be expecting a decision in no later than 6months, then give yourself another 3wks to a month for the NVC to process it, a week and some days for it to get to GH, no later than 6-8 weeks for them to call him, and based on the workload will schedule an interview date, generally within 6-8weeks, if he gets approved at the interview then he picks up the visa a month from the interview date..Check the guidelines, timelines and all the other resources available here.

Sorry to burst your bubble but he aint coming with you when you go..send me an email and i can break it down for you over the phone..

Ok yeah I pretty much figured he wouldn't be coming back with me because I have been married before for 6years to a man from Ghana as well...LOL! I know a coincidence (hope that want be a problem) anyway he was here (US-Michigan) and we went through the immigration process here. But I have no idea about the fiance visa process at all. Yes, you can email me and give some more information thanks!

So ladybird you say that the k3 spousal visa takes longer than the k1 fiance visa?
