Confusion on K-1 visa fees

Hi everyone,

So I got my packet 4 and I was going through the forms. One of those has the visa fees listed.I knew all along that I needed to pay $131(unless the hike came into effect) and the courier fees of Rs.387.

But on the form there is a bunch of other fees listed like the IV processing fee, IV combined Fee,IV Issuance Fee,,IV Surcharge fee and DV fees(Diversity Visa I guess).

I only have to pay the K visa application fee of $131 and the courier fees right?

If not, well they all add up to a bomb :(

Thanks,

Anwesha

Yes the fees are 131...the doctor fees and also courier fees that is correct.

Let me know if this helps.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply sugarapple:)

I do know that the visa fees are correct at $131, and that I also need to pay the courier fees.

But what am confused about is the bunch of other fees mentioned on that form sent by my consulate(Mumbai).

I think it is a consulate specific thing,so hopefully someone could clarify this for me.

Thanks again though!

All those IV fees don't apply to K-1s since it's technically not an immigrant visa.

That's weird. I have had no issues getting through to them on the phone. But they've been VERY slow to respond to emails. Took them about 3 weeks to respond to a query.

I have to submit my documents to VFS anytime during the week of Apr 19-26.

My husband's courier packet should get here by tomorrow evening. I will then use this coming week to sort out our interview stuff and then submit the documents to VFS the following week.

Good luck to you as well!

Anwesha -- My fiance just received Packet 4 from Mumbai yesterday, and those fees confused him, also! (He said, "Rs. 37900!??!" ... haha ...). I think Sachinky is right -- we only have to pay $131 and courier fees. Did you get any confirmation from Mumbai?

Sachinky, how was your experience with VFS? My fiance is afraid he may not have all documents by May 24 (three weeks before interview) -- so he may have to hand-carry some documents with him (medical, passport clearance). Do you think that's OK?

By the way, did you guys notice how OUTDATED that Packet 4 is? They should just direct everyone to their website for all forms, documents and information, instead of relying on the Indian Postal Service to deliver outdated, irrelevant mail. (At one point, it says "as of 2000, K-1 visa fees are $100".)

They took my medical, DS230 Part I & II, photocopy of all passport pages, and Rs. 387 for the DHL courier fee. And three passport pictures. I also submitted my husband's new I-864 and accompanying documentation. They also asked to see some pictures of us together which I thought was strange but I have a bunch stored on my phone so I switched it back on and showed them our best lovey-dovey pictures.

The guy at the helpdesk was very helpful and informative and did a lot to calm down my nerves. I was in and out within an hour.

Thanks guys! That makes us feel better that the VFS Kolkata people are nice. We will have to contact them to make sure it's OK if PC and medical can be hand-carried to the embassy.

AHHHHHH, you guys are soooooo close to your interview dates. GOOD LUCK!!!! I'm starting to get nervous / excited, too :)

You really might want to check on that visa fee, because even though you received your packet 4 when the fee was still $131, your interview is after when the fee hike takes effect on June 4th. On June 4th, the fee goes up to $350, so you should really call them and double check.
