They put in in bottles of chocolate milk now. One sure way to stop the widespread use of HFCS is to end corn subsidies. What a fvckin racket that whole thing is.

 It would put an end to wasteful ethanol production as well! Wow! Me and the hippie agree on something!

From what I've read, even real fruit juice is not good for kids to be drinking a lot of. We buy apple and orange juice, but try to limit how much they drink.

It has a lot of sugar. I usually water it down 2/3 juice, 1/3 water. The only one I can't water down is orange juice... they notice and say it tastes gross. I agree.

...and you know who actually benefits from those subsidies?

Tufts study: Corn subsidies are a sop to HFCS industry, but don't alone make bad food cheap

####### is a "sop"? And what language is he trying to speak?

Subsidies are bad because they manipulate the market into doing something it would not otherwise do. This is wrong on two levels:

1) As any scientist knows, political or practical, systems tend to equilibrium, and intentionally keeping a system in a high state of potential requires more and more "energy". In this case, that means more and more subsidies will be required to sustain any benefit the subsidies are intended to provide. At a certain point, subsidies become self defeating, and no longer economically feasible.

2) Subsidies imply a mistrust of human behavior that is diametrically opposed to the basic theory of the free market. The premise of Supply and Demand is that the natural behavior of humans provide the feedback necessary to sustain the market. As demand increases, so does innovation, and as supply increases, prices will decrease. Vice versa, when demand diminishes, so will production, and capital will move to further innovation. Artificially "priming the pump" will only stimulate production temporarily, but may or may not create a demand for the product or service, and pushes the system away from equilibrium and we have the case shown above.
