Hello Everyone,

I am planning to submit I-751 form within 2 day. And my question is: I want to change my last name( take my husband's name). How should I proceed it?? Can I mention it in the cover letter? What is the best way of doing it? And should I pay an extra fee for it?

Thank you very much,

Sincerely,

Irina

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Fill out the form with your married name, but you'll also have to include proof of the reason for the change. So enclose a certified copy of your marriage certificate. I think a letter would also be prudent explaining the situation, and that you'd like your 10 year GC to now reflect your married name.

You may also want to visit your local social security office with your marriage certificate and fill out a name change with them, get a new SS card....this will then allow you to more easily have your name change reflected in all other documents (DL, credit card, work, etc.). At some point you'll want to have all your identity type documents reflecting the same name...so as to not create confusion.
