my finance is sending me her divorce copy from brazil, it is in portuguese,do i need to get it translated into english and a notary stamp ?

If you are sending it in with your I-129F petition then yes, it must be translated from Portuguese to English. It does not need to be notarized. The USCIS has information on translating documents.

In general, all documents in a foreign language must be translated into English by a competent translator. I have known people to "self-certify" a document and translate it themselves. If you speak/read/write/understand Portuguese, you can translate it and attach a document attesting to its accuracy. In many latin american countries speaking Spanish, there is no need to translate documents into English. I'm going through this process currently and I sent my Colombian (2008) divorce decree to the USCIS with no RFE. (However, I did get an RFE for a previous (1991) divorce decree because I forgot to include it with my petition. LOLOL...and it was in English!)

Yes, you need to attach a translation into English, but they do not require notary authorization for the translation, they just want each page of the translation be certified by the translator (quoting from uscis official site):

Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.

The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:

Certification by Translator

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.

Signature_________________________________

Date Typed Name

If you can find a professional service in Brazil will be cheaper than using a US service..

Personally, I feel is not necessary for your fiancée to spent the money sending you her divorce if she can translated there, you still need return all documents back to her for the interview...

My fiancée used a very reliable service to translate her birth certificate, diploma and other documents without any hassle or complications, very professional presentation and inexpensive.. if you need the name of the service let me know

If you can find a professional service in Brazil will be cheaper than using a US service..

Personally, I feel is not necessary for your fiancée to spent the money sending you her divorce if she can translated there, you still need return all documents back to her for the interview...
