I am utterly confused and so would like to turn to those who have had similar experiences as myself. I am seeking the advice of those who have already been approved are who are pending their AOS from a STudent visa. I would like them to share there advice, experiences, stories, etc

I am doing this as I mentioned before that hubby and intend on sending out our package soon and we are getting a lot of good advice; some of it confusing. For eg, I was told by a reputable individual to not include tmi (too much info/evidence) yet. I have PM'd some members and I realized that they all transferred from K-1- thanks though. I have read the guides, know what they say but I would like to hear from AOS from F-1 which I feel is more relatable to my case...

Thanks in advance

I helped my friend go through a student/aos scenario.

Just follow the guides above, include what each form requires, and you should not have any issues.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

I am going through the same thing as you but haven't been approved yet. Our interview is in a week. I personally think that I should have sent more evidence, and could have avoided the interview. People say that if you send enough they approve you without an interview. Plus I really don't see how it could hurt. I will let you know how the interview went (hopefully well) :)

I've never heard of anyone doing AOS from a student visa who wasn't interviewed.

My wife did AOS from a student visa. We sent some "proof" with the I-130, and had more at the interview. We were not asked for any of it. The interview was simple and painless.

If you have any specific questions, I'd be happy to try to help, but as Bobby said, AOS from a student visa is straightforward.

We just sent our paperwork to adjust my status from F-1. Before we filed, I spent about 3 days reading topics in the forum and this really helped me get everything ready relatively painlessly.

Val Marty, good luck at the interview!

Thanks for the update/info guys... Im just tired of reading the guides and dont want an overkill of evidence...

I'm in the same boat. I'm adjusting form F1. I read all the guides and seems some documents overlap such as certified copy of marriage certificate etc. I don't know if they need more than one copy since everything is being filed concurrently. I also can't figure what I write for my wife's last name (she is in the process of changing it, but won't have it done before I file).

AOS Timeline from F1

Sent AOS on April 17

Received and signed on April 19

Got 3 NOAs April 26

Biometrics Appointment Letter received May 1 - dated May 26

Walk-in biometrics rejected May 12

Biometrics Appointment May 26

Interview letter received June 11 - for July 19 APPROVED

EAD Received July 9

GC RECEIVED August 2

Well, as far as her last name, the marriage and certificate constitutes the use of her new married name (unless she hopes to keep her own)

Good Luck with filing you guys!

I adjusted from a work visa based on marriage - very similar to adjusting from a student visa as no K1. Like Jeriii said I think interviews are mandatory for everyone except some K1s.

We didn't have much evidence as we had only been married 10 days before we filed.

We sent: about 5 affidavits from family & friends, a signed letter from our bank saying on x date Me & my husband came in to open a joint account, 2 joint credit cards and about 8 photos ( we could have sent hundreds but didn't want to overwhelm them - so picked a handful - really varied all on different days/locations - e.g family/vacation etc.)

Our interview went really well, the IO told us we'd done great document presentation. We took a lot of evidence into our interview but they literally looked at our joint bank account, life & car insurance then handed us back the stack, without looking at anything else. They also said they didn't need to add anything to our file.

My husband got the impression they were 95% ready to approve us before we walked in. Of course I don't know it wouldn't have been any different if we hadn't sent anything, as i'm sure a lot of it comes down to the IO's instincts on how you interact with each other. But sending as much relevant evidence as we could, definitely didn't hurt us.

Good luck guys!
