That;s because, like Barry, they see the Constitution as a document of negative rights, not allowing the government to control more and limit your rights with "benevolent" social programs that limit your choices because the government knows what's best for you.

I like what Ben Franklin said about nannyists: Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Just for the record, Ben Frankline never actually said that and it was said by an anonymous individual in 1759. It's attributed to Ben Frankline because it makes it seem more 'legit' in political eyes.

Wrong.

See: US Constitution

The job of the government is to leave its citizens alone and make sure they live in a safe enviroment from outside interference.

Gosh, that sounds like taking care of them to me...

The government's job is to make sure that its citizens aren't getting screwed over,

WOW, sounds like taking care of them again!!!

not being the one's who are screwing the citizens over.

This is a matter of opinion, there are many that do not share these feelings about their government... more so than those that do, I think. I suppose that if you failed to pay your taxes and the IRS is after you, you might have these feelings of persecution... Maybe you should try to determine just why you think your screwing up is somebody else's fault....

LIMITED FEDERAL POWERS. So many people don't seem to get this concept.

Limiting federal powers can still allow the government to take care of its citizens.

I don't agree really. That is what it has become, but I think government is there to provide law and order first and foremost. Nothing is free. I am not sold on this health care bill, still. I am worried about it, still. The founding fathers wanted a less involved government in their lives after bad experiences. I don't however think the health care reform=socialism or communism. I am just a little iffy about it all, still. And I even have lots of relatives who currently don't have and can't afford insurance.

I also have relatives who are in the same boat. I guess the government is only for those who are wealthy...

The government making demands of its people like this is not a matter of opinion. It's outright Tyranny and any politician who pushed this through should be removed from office by ANY means necessary.

See: State Government

The Government adhering to special interests/being overbearing to begin with put us in the "cost" problem we have today. Truly look and understand the health care industry and stop listening to the turds who want to blame the insurance companies for everything.

Health Care can be affordable, if it weren't being dictated for the past 40 years already!!!

It's from his "Historical Review of Pennsylvania", published in 1759. He did take credit for it.

I won't shut up and I have been working to fix the problem. Excellent!!! I commend you for it!! I pay for everything I get myself, and part of the problem is that a lot of people don't think they have to. They are the problem. I agree. There are many that do abuse the system indeed.

The single responsibility of government is to protect the borders and the sovereignity of the state.

Hold on here bucko!!!

This sounds like a dictatorship to me. Or an old European Monarchy style government. I can not believe that our Founding Fathers would want to copy such as that...

It is not the responsibilty of the government to nany its citizens. That's what's wrong with your kind of thinking. Self-sufficiency is the best social program.

Its not 'my kind of thinking' bucko!!

Its you that fails to understand, that HUGH numbers of people, Millions and millions, simply do not have the resources to be self sufficient. I to not have the resources to buy land to grow my own crops, nor the skills to butcher and store my own meat. I don't want to live like early American frontier people. I bet you don't want to do that either!

I'll bet bullies took his lunch money. That's why he feels so helpless that the government should protect him from all of us bullies who want him to take care of himself.

Ohhh, Ohhhh the lunch programs!! I bet you wanted all those kids to drop out and be self sufficient too. They could 'harvest' the local liquor store and go 'hunting' for meat on the dark sidewalks of our cites!! Somehow I bet you don't want to live like that either...

Maybe the government needs to be involved, to some degree, in the lives of its citizens after all...and not just protect the borders and the sovereignity of the state...

But, hey, maybe that is how you want things...

Hysterical nonsense. We have the U.S. Constitution that protects our rights. Should you ever feel that the Fed Gov't is encroaching your constitutional rights, you can fight it through the Supreme Court. We have a representational democracy - meaning that we elect representatives to act on our behalf. They are accountable to us, the voters. President Obama and the Democrats are fulfilling one of their campaign promises - to reform health care. The people spoke in November 2008 and our representatives honored that. No piece of legislation will ever be unanimous, so unless you have a gripe over the constitutionality of this piece of legislation, you're just full of hot air.

You show me where they are actually reforming health care here.

This does NOTHING but add burden to the current system.

The people didn't elect Obama for this, and you know it.

You're just repeating what I said.

Zing!

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I think you'd sit in better company with him.

After all you don't seem to give a damn about the Constitution/Declaration of Independence.

When government becomes out of control..... Well, if you understand the latter document, you know the rest.
