Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let people know how my timeline is. I crossed March 4 and received my welcome letter on March 16 and then my SSN came yesterday on March 17! Very fast!!

Sent I130 to Chicago - March 1, 2008

NOA 1- April, 2008

Transferred to California - April, 2008

NOA 2 - March 13, 2009 (lost for awhile)

NVC case number given - March 30, 2009

NVC case complete - April 25, 2009

Email for interview - July 3, 2009

Interview - August 12, 2009 DENIED!!

PROOF OF DOMICILE:

Package 1: sent August 13, 2009

Package 1: sent back August 23, 2009 -more proof needed

Package 2: sent September 3, 2009

Package 2: sent back Nov. 1, 2009 - more proof needed

2011 April 1 - Arrived in Texas at 10:21 am

2011 April 1 - NOA (rec'd via snail mail April 8)

2011 April 7 - Cheque cashed

2011 May 5 - Biometrics (letter rec'd via snail mail April 15)

2011 May 9 - Placed in line for interview scheduling

2011 June 13 - Rec'd yellow letter (no change in status online)

2011 June 23 - Rec'd text that my case has been scheduled for interview

2011 August 1 - Interview (rec'd via snail mail June 27) PASSED

2011 August 3 - Rec'd email that my case has been scheduled for Oath

2011 September 1 - Oath ceremony (rec'd snail mail Aug 5)

2011 September 1 - All done, yeah.

Wow brock and sdw, that was fast! I wish mine would get here! I'll have been here for 3 weeks as of this Friday! I am now thinking that I am one of those lucky schlubs that just NEVER gets the SSN and has to go in and apply.

Oh well, i guess it is what it is, I wish i'd get it though, I need to get my drivers' stuff taken care of and open up my own bank account.

Congrats to you guys! both of you waited for a long time for stuff so I really should not complain at all.

yep, best to download the SSN form,fill it out, take ur passport and head to the SSN office and ask about the status of it.

Greencard usually arrives very soon after the welcome letter

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

:thumbs: I followed Flames advice last summer; filled out the form and applied at the local SS office exactly 3 weeks after my POE and it arrived 6 days later. It was a very easy process. :)

1 can always fill out the form there, but back to the line ya go! If ya have it already filled out, you simply hand it over to the clerk! I recommend getting early to the SSN office and waiting for it to open, always a busy place

Hi Everyone,

I was pleasantly surprised at the speedy arrival of them too! I was expecting at least a few denials first.....LOL! When I POE'd on March 4th, I went to the SS office and applied in person. I actually applied for mine and my son's the same day. This Tuesday I recieved a letter (addressed to my son) saying that he ordered a SS card and it will arrive in about 2 weeks. So when he got a letter and I didn't....I was like "oh oh here we go"! The next day I had two envelopes from SS office in Marlyand and two new SS numbers. Unfortunetly I have to go back to the office and do an application for my daughter since I only had her Passport on me that day and not her birth certificate (you need both)!! So, I will go and do hers this week or next. Also, when I POE'd, the friendly officer told me that I should receive my GC in about 5-6 months!! So, when I got the letter on Tuesday....I was shocked!! I'm not to sure on how long from the 'welcome' letter until the actual GC arrives though?? So LGG, I would go into the office and apply and I'm sure you'll get your welcome letter by Friday!

Congratulations on getting the welcome letter and SSN! If the GC is the same for everyone after getting that welcome letter, it shouldn't be long now...Mine was real fast! I came as K-1 though, so I really don't know if that makes a difference.
