hi vj,

it's been a long time i did not post here but I'm always reading topics here everyday. My purpose is to ask all magic jack users recently if they have any idea of using magic jack to call a mobile number in the Philippines. Is it possible that I can call a mobile number using these unit? I'm planning to buy one in the future. Any helpful ideas will be appreciated. Thank you.

You can use the Magic Jack to call, but it costs around 20 cents a minute for Phillipines. Hope this helps.

Magicjack is not practical if you call from US to PH (calling cards are cheaper). You still have long distance charges and have to get long distance credits added to your Magicjack phone. I actually got my girl a Magicjack and brought it to PH on my last visit. She has DSL at home and she can call me in the US on her Magicjack and we can talk for hours. The quality is not bad most times, depends on the net conenction. But Magicjack works on the principal of having one main router based in Texas. When you log onto the system via internet, you are immediately routed to their main router. If the call from there is a US call, then that's included in your annual plan. But if the call is overseas, that's not included and requires call credits. So, my girl can call me on my cell or my office number like she's making a US call....she can call US 800 numbers or even call that embassy Hotline for scheduling appointments. I can also call her on Magicjack and it's like calling a US number as our Magicjack has a California number.

I want to share our experience with it,when my fiancee is about to install it,it shut downs the pc and so we ended up , pc on the pc shop for reprogram as we lost all files ,good thing we have back up....just be careful with it ang try calling thier call centers for any question you want as possible if you happen to decide buying one...we ended up alternate calling then ,since we talked twice a day he's the one calling me before i go to work, then me calling him before he goes to work, what im using here is pldt budget card it only cost 1 peso and 50 cents a minute ,its a good deal already....

try it if you want...

THANK YOU SO MUCH OUR GOD ALMIGHTY FOR EVERYTHING ,WE PRAY UNTO YOU WITH YOUR SON JESUS CHRIST AND MARY OUR MOST LOVING MOTHER.PRAISE GOD...

There are no long distance charges using MJ when calling the PH. It just simply deducts from the amount that was added to your account for said long distance calling to the PH.

They charge you by the minute to call PH. $0.20/min for calls to PH landline and $0.24/min to PH cellphones. You must charge up a special account in MJ for international calling. I get $0.08/min to PH on my ATT calling card to my girl's cell phone in PH and use that whenever they have power outages, which they have quite often these days..

Yes, to your int'l MJ account. I did prefer to use AT&T when my wife was there as it's much cheaper.

I use Rebtel with my cell phone, works great. At home I use Verizon Fios which is a penny more/minute. My cell phone has spotty connection in my house. My fiancee has used Magic Jack with wired and wireless connection. It works good but the iffy internet connection in Butuan makes for a lot of static and drop calls. For text messages I use Google Voice which allows me to send SMS text to Philippines for free from both computer and cell phone. Fiancee when she sends text sends to my Nokia with roaming chip.

hmm google lets you do it for free huh? What kind of phone do you have? I have Yahoo messenger on my phone (blackberry 9700) but I cant figure how to send to her phone without having her go mobile...I am assuming this is how google talk works too? I guess I will load it up and see.

Just looking for a better way to send her messages that doesnt cost an arm and a leg. I'm in alaska, so i cant get an unlimited international txting plan like in the lower 48.

The android and blackberry phones have a plug-in for google voice. I have an I-phone so I have to log on to a google website. To use SMS for free you have to get a google voice phone number which maybe uses VOIP to work (not really sure). The plug-in is really easy but even using web-based service it is very simple. I have read that some people have had luck with family being able to text them back using different numbers. There is a forum for Google Voice which discusses this. Way above my head.

I use Google voice a lot. Once you sign up for Google voice you get a phone number. It uses the internet to connect. So if you are using the computer it will first dial your phone and connect you then patch through to the person you are calling.

If you have anandroid phone it will have a plugin that you can use straight from your phone. Texting is free outbound to the Philippines. Receiving it would still be a long distance from the Philippines since the number is US based. They can reply and it will end up in your box and forward to your cell phone if your cell phone is setup in google voice.

For making calls from Gvoice it's 11 cents a minute to a Phil landline and 17 cents a min to a cell phone. Rates may differ

based on the area. My fiance lives in Davao.
