I traveled to the Philippines with my daughter last year and she was 3yrs then, and my god, it cost me $1,085 just for her ticket, and mine was the same price. Her was $1,085 for the simple fact that she had her own seat. I at least thought by her being so young, there would be some sort of discount, but it wasn't. If you think you can carry you child in your lap the entire way, which is a long flight, of course, you might come out a lot cheaper.

i'll be travelling with my baby too and paid for just my seat :)

since your baby is only 5 months, chances are she'll be on your arms/lap most of the time anyway. also most airlines provide a baby carrier/stroller on-board anyway for your baby to sleep on. just make sure you request this before your flight.

also if you don't want to pay for excess baggage make sure yours does not go beyond your limit, and depending on how big your baby is, use a sling/stroller to carry him around airports and have just one bag (or your baby's needs and impt stuff) as your carry-on.

put baby's needs that will be used for the whole flight but make it as light as possible.
