My wife is 20 weeks pregnant and i am a first time dad. I have been going to "All Pregnant Mommies" thread for support, but I cant understand Tagalog. Any guys out there who are soon to be fathers who would like a place to talk about anything with the huge change coming in their life? Feel free to join in here. Keep me company at least.... hehe! We got issues, concerns, and what not to talk about too! This is all so new to me, and I feel kinda alone.

is this where we discuss which brands of cigars we hand out?

Hehe... and I do like cigars. When in Germany I had wonderful cigars from Holland. My wife turned up her nose to the idea of me smoking cigars though

Last cigar I had was from Jamaica. That was about 20 years ago...

Excellent cigar.

My wife is teaching me a little everyday. I think it would be good for the kids to be bi-lingual. Eventually I would like to retire in the philippines, so I have to learn the language so I dont have to depend on my wife all the time.

Having a baby is great...probably the best feeling that you can ever imagine...especially the first time they smile at you....even if it is just gas :D

My wife is a teacher by trade, but she seems to have not much hopes in me learning Tagalog. But I do speak a good deal of German. She doesnt even try to teach me. She is of the opinion though that our son should not be confused with another language until the age of 5, but I differ on that opinion with her. I think somehow he can separate the two languages out just fine, earlier than that. I want him to be bi-lingual, perfectly, so that he has a choice of where he wants to live his adult life. But I dont have any idea when is considered the "right time" to be taught Tagalog... Would like a prefessional answer on this.

Hehe at that gas part. Me and my wife would like to retire there too. She has land there, and my retirement pay would go a bit farther there. That is also why I would like our son to know Tagalog. Not sure what it would take for us (me) to legally be able to immigrate there though. Would also like to get a job there to suppliment our retirement income.

This is my first child, and I am going to be an older father than most. I am 49. I began getting overwhelmed not too long ago with the costs of everything. Thank God she was approved recently for blue cross/blue shield for pregnant women here in Tennessee. We didnt have insurance, and here she would have had to be in country 5 years before being eligible for regular medicaid. In fact I also lost my job in November. We found a clinic an hour and a half away that would see her on a sliding scale though. But she wasnt eligible for anything other than emergency medicaid at labor and delivery, not until she has been here for 5 years. But this program that the clinic said the state was reinstating was a possibility, and they submitted the paperwork for us, and now she is covered, for maternity only, but that is a huge help.

I now have a job, but still cant afford the health insurance with her not working (she cant work because she has placental previa, which means the placenta is sitting right on top of the cervix which puts her at risk). I was very overwhelmed emotionally, with gratitude, when a co-worker offered and gave to us so much... A bassinet, a bouncer, a walker and a car seat. Those things are all huge to us right now.

We will be better when I get through school. Am making that a priority at this time too so we can somehow get ahead. Will be going to school 8AM-2:30PM weekdays, then working 3PM-11PM each evening for a year now.

Anyways, I am very happy and excited with my wife being pregnant. She was beautiful when she was not pregnant, and she is beautiful while pregnant, just in different ways. And God gave her a most beautiful heart... and he shared her with me, which just goes beyond my comprehension at times...just am grateful.

I think our baby is going to be a soccer player. He has been kicking, HARD, since 15 weeks old. That would be great for me, hehe, because I loved playing soccer, but have a shoulder injury which would make it hard to teach him American football.

I am going through the same stuff. My wife is about 22 weeks pregnant right now. Well that depends on who you choose to believe? modern science or a 90 year old mountain woman in Negros Oriental. We just got back from a trip to the RP in early March. The same woman who delivered my wife when she was a baby is still alive and living in the same place my wifes parents live. That old woman said the baby would come in late June. The trained OBGYN here in the states says July 23rd. When I told our local OBGYN the mountain womans diagnoses she seemed a little offended that I questioned her expertise. In response I offered a small wager to her of when the baby would be born and then she started to back track a little and then said her due date prediction is good 3 weeks before or after July 23rd. Hahaha...doctors they are just practiceing!!!LOL! Anyways we are super excited and nervous all at the same time. Nervous because we have no idea what we are doing. My mom is out of the picture, and her mom is on the other side of the world, so we are just gonna have to wing it. We will figure it out as it comes I guess. Its amazing, babies are born over in those mountains everyday with just a mid-wife present in a hot nipa hut. Here the minimum is like 4K USD and can go up to 30K USD if done by Cesarian. Thank God I have good insurance. One thing for sure is little Waylon is on his way, with or without modern science.
