OK, the K1 Visa has arrived in California...I am thinking that somewhere on this site I read of someplace that you can follow the VISA process online to know where your application is....

Is there such a site?

You can register as an applicant customer at www.uscis.gov and enter your case number. WAC# or EAC#. Then when your case is looked at, the date will change.

You can also sign-up to be notified by email or SMS text messages.

you can do it, but is not 100% reliable, sometimes during the whole process you'll never receive a "touch" only until the day you get your NOA2

You can check the status of your case here:

https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/Dashboard.do

You can sign up for an account, or just enter your receipt number each time to check it. As yakad said, it's not completely reliable. USCIS does use a computer database to track the status of all cases, but I don't think the CRIS system is directly connected to that computer database. I think somebody has to manually transcribe the case status from the internal system to the CRIS system. Exactly how this works isn't published on the USCIS website, but many people have said that the customer support operators at USCIS frequently have more up-to-date information than the CRIS system displays.

The online system was only marginally useful for me. My case didn't show up on the system until two days AFTER my check had been cashed (I got my receipt number from viewing my canceled check on my bank's website). After that, my case status didn't change again for a few months. Then, in one day, I got a touch, followed by approval. Two days later, I received the NOA2 in the mail.
