I'd like to know what all these gay marriage lovers would think if their spouse left them for a gay marriage and dragged their kids into it. Their tune would change, and fast!

I wouldn't be happy if my wife left me for a man either. What's the point? Would you like it if our wife left you for another man and took your kids to have another father? Would you think..."Well, at least it is not for a lesbian!" Give me a break.

As far as the constitution goes, the 10th amendment has a meaning, I think you will agree. The constitution in no way forbids gay marriage, therefore it is a state decision. Bad situation in my opinion. I do not think the governent should be in the role of deciding who can receive the certain benefits allowed to "married" individuals on the basis of the gender of their spouse. Why whoudl two commited people be denied being to take insurance out on each other when they depend on each other? Makes no sense.

My marriage is perfectly secure and is in no way threatened by lesbians or gay men getting married in Vermont. How could it possibly affect me? In fact, it is probably safer since some of those lesbians are now married and maybe will not be after Alla...whatever, I have no desire to get ridiculous. Marriage or not, gays and lesbians will not go away or switch teams and marry each other because you don't like it. It isn;t a matter of whether the gay lifestyle will exist or not, it will.

I think you and I have a fundamental difference on the role of public school.

I think public institutions should AVOID areas of conflict... not pay one side to come advocate for there views.

It's true. I can't trust that every teacher or every administrator is going to be on the same page as I am, so there is an obvious bias. Public schools try to avoid areas of conflict for the most part, and have even been eliminating holidays and birthdays from their activities. Many parents are upset by this, but again, it's their way of 'eliminating conflict.'

My mom was a stay at home mom when I was in grade school. Now most mothers work fulltime jobs and are not home with their kids. Things have changed an awful lot in the home as well as in the schools & we need to change with it.

Just because gays are a minority is not a reason to give them the "right" to marry. If being a minority gives you rights, then I'm being discriminated against because I don't have enough made up rights to satisfy me.

Nobody is saying that the mere fact of belonging to a minority affords anyone any rights. That's not the point anyone is making.

You know, you'd do well trying to stay on topic every now and then. Ted Olson was the 42nd US Solicitor General serving from 2001-2004 under George W Bush. Olson is a very skilled lawyer who argued a number of cases before the Supreme Court and successfully represented W in Bush vs. Gore in 2000.

Well, the Solicitor General is not a position equivalent to a groundskeeper. And again, Olson has a pretty solid record of successfully arguing high profile cases. And there's little argument that he's a red blood conservative. Now I don't know what else you're looking for. Read the case he's making - it's really worth reading.
