And yet...you continue to do nothing towards proving your assumptions about the welfare of society if gays were allowed to marry.

I have now asked you repeatedly to list your reasons for the benefit and/or amusement for all the readers of this thread and you have only listed on thing...which was shot down mercilessly. Can you list more? Can you cite historical references? Or are your assumptions only that, based on your religeous and/or prejudcial thought processes?

Your assumption is that legalizing gay marriage will bring about peace and love and make us all better people. Prove that.

That's as stupid as saying people who support gay marriage really wish they were gay themselves

No, it's saying people who support gay marriage don't have a problem with gay people. I would never wish to be gay. To have to deal with people like you feeling your union/love is superior to mine? No thank you.

World history isn't relevant to this discussion, so the only reason to insert it is so you can ignore American history. In American history, legitimizing gay marriage would be a major redefinition of marriage and a substantive culture shift.

I wish you folks would stop ofuscating; it's so gauche.

There was a point in the US, were marriage was defined as a between two people of the same race. People were protesting and hated that, and it even popped up again just a few months ago.

A religious institution of marriage and legal institution of marriage are two different things in this country. Just getting married in a church does not automatically grant the legal benefits of being married.

Changing the legal definition of marriage does not infringe on your right to practice the religious institution of marriage in any way you see fit.

It will go no where, as its often in the eye of the beholder. A more free society which moves away from legislating morality is consider a decline in society by some.

Here's my point. Sofiyya states that we keep pointing out that their statements are based on their feelings, not reality, and they are consistantly denying that. So, I am merely asking for proof that society as we know it will fall and things will change drastically. There must be historical evidence this has happend before. I would love to see what that is.

What is abundantly clear is that those of you who promote gay marriage are not long term thinkers. You have no concept of society or social cohesion and believe that what's best can only be measured by what's best for you individually. You have little grasp of history and are unable to expand the consequences of social change beyond yourselves and others who think like you. It's always an interesting pursuit, these exchanges, tho; much like talking to the hippies I knew in the sixties. But then, a lot of you were probably raised by old hippies and they've taken over the government for now, so, no surprise there.

This actually made me laugh outloud. First off, I never said those words, please cite where I did. But I WILL say, it would greatly improve the lives of gay couples wanting the same benefits and right as other married couples. Granting this benefit to them will neither better nor worsen my life. However, it WILL improve THEIR lives.

Opposing gay marriage doesn't make someone a homophobe either, that is, in reality, if we can stick with reality.

Exactly how will it have an effect on society? Marriage is basically a contract, partner's can already sign similar contracts. And who says the government even has a right to over see marriage in the first place. Much ado about nothing really.

Again, PLEASE cite the historcal reference where this has shown to be true (gay unions destroying and/or forever having a negative impact on society). You keep repeating your dogma, but cannot or will not reference any historical data. I think the former rather than the latter is true....

That benefit can be gained for gays without gay marriage.

Really? As stated by a previous poster, many employers do not grant the same life/health benefits to gay couples as they do married couples. Many hospitals will not release any information to the next of kin, if that next of kin happens to be the gay partner. I know of one couple where one person was very ill in the hospital and his life partner of 20+ years was not allowed into see him, as the hospital had a policy of family only. There are many other instances where what you just said is completely incorrect. This is what we are trying to correct.
