19 days since my visa interview, and still no visa, or even a response!

I had my K-1 interview at the US Embassy on February 3rd. A few things were not in order, so courier collected these items from me on February 9th. Now silence. Should I be worried? No response, no visa, nothing.

Event Date

Service Center : Vermont Service Center

Consulate : London, United Kingdom

I-129F Sent : 2009-05-27

I-129F NOA1 : 2009-05-29

I-129F RFE(s) :

RFE Reply(s) :

I-129F NOA2 : 2009-09-10

I-797 Received: 2009-09-22

NVC Received :

NVC Left :

Consulate Received :

Packet 3 Received : 2009-10-05

Packet 3 Sent : 2009-10

Packet 4 Received : 2010-01-06

Interview Date : 2010-02-03

Interview Result : Disastrous.

Only realised on the day that a full birth certificate was needed. My passport was too damaged, in the opinion of the interviewing officer (although it wasn't really that damaged at all!). Was told I needed to supply an I-134, completed by my fiancee (even though the embassy guidance notes specifically advises that K-1 applicants do not have to do this). Was told that I needed to supply my fiancee's tax return paperwork for year ending 2008 (even though K-1 applicants are not advised of this at all prior to interview!)

US Entry : 2010-02-25

Marriage : 2010-03-22

Comments : Married at Harris County Courthouse on Clay Road by Judge William Yeoman. Then a lovely lunch at Bistro Alex, off Sam Houston Tollway, Houston, TX! Yummy!

Processing

Estimates/Stats : Your I-129f was approved in 115 days from your NOA1 date.

Nobody has an answer to this one. I guess me and Shawnie are the most ###### out of luck people on here? The K-1 visa process seems to be a lottery.

I don't know enough about the consulate(s) in the UK to speak about it/them specifically, however many who have sent additional information to the Montreal consulate have been waiting months for a response - so no, you aren't the only one.

Everything about this visa process has seemed insane. US Embassy should respond with a 'denied' letter, or issue me with a visa no longer than 5 working days until after they have everything/I have had my interview. I am literally homeless and couch-surfing. They have had MY passport and birth certificate for two weeks now. I cannot contact them as I have minimal funds to be able to pay the owner of the phone from which I have to call the US Embassy at a cost of £1.20 per minute! The Embassy should invest in a call centre, of which the phone number is a regular landline. They have the funds, they can do this. The embassy should be 'Customer friendly' and 'User friendly'.

Perhaps you can email the Embassy if you don't have the funds to phone them. I emailed the US Embassy in my fiancee's city and received an email response within 3 days (which I thought was pretty good).

As far as "US Embassy should respond with a 'denied' letter, or issue me with a visa no longer than 5 working days", I feel for you but the Embassy works at it's own speed and there's nothing you can do to really speed them up. As far as the Embassy being "customer friendly" and "user friendly" - they're under no obgligation to be friendly, nor are they apt to be.

I believe you can call DOS and they'll let you know what's going on. It's not always right but it's free from the US.
