K1 Visa - possible marriage break up

I arrived in the USA from England in August to marry my fiance who is a US citizen.

Things haven't worked out between us and I am now facing the prospect of possibly having my conditional residency revoked through divorce.

Obviously if this happens, I will want/need time to work out my affairs, see friends etc before I have to leave. I was able (on a previous work visa) to leave the country for a couple of days and fly back entering on a tourist visa so as to allow time for traveling once my employment had ended.

Is this possible post divorce?

They don't kick you out the moment you sign the papers. Besides, it may take 6 months for that divorce to be final. Lots of time.

If your AOS is approved, you still have 2 years left on that card, so plenty of time to get things in order before you go home.

If your husband calls up USCIS and informs them of the divorce it may force you to apply for removal of conditions early (if you want to stay), but no one is going to be banging down your door.

If you want to stay and want to remove conditions based on divorce, start collecting evidence of a bonafide marriage now.

Many thanks for the replies.

It's good to know that a. I wouldn't have somebody beating down my door and b. there is a solution which is somewhere close to compromise as far as staying married vs being kicked out of the country.

Honestly, I'm just trying to explore all of my options at the moment since the situation is skipping between volatile and decent and I'm not sure which approach my husband will be taking when all is said and done. I want to be sure I have as much information as possible in case of a worst case scenario.

If the volatile becomes dangerous, abusive or physical you need to get out of the house. Stay safe.

Good luck.
