If I buy for example a digital photo frame as a gift to my mom and another to my dad, and take it with me, will they want mew to pay taxes or something on top of it? Is there a website that I can go and read about that kind of stuff, like what's permitted and how can i do it right so they won't think i'm taking things to sell in brazil?

i know this is not OT, so move it if you'd like, i don't care.

this website is a lil more complicated http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/vacation/kbyg/

I don't know about this because Luis brought 2 bottles of Pisco with no problem from Peru. Anyway here's the other website about alcohol, I think if you bring in more than 1 liter you pay tax on it. http://www.content4reprint.com/recreation-...a-duty-free.htm

On my 3 most recent trips to Brazil (Jan2010, July2009, Dec2008) I took 2 new laptops (on two separate trips), a digital photo frame, A PS-2 game console, A Guitar Hero kit with drums & guitars, stacks of video games and DVDs, a digital camera. I also took non-electronic stuff: books, board games, puzzles, food (cereal, pop tarts, root beer, mac and cheese, candy, chocolate - all the stuff u can't get there that the kids love from here).

I left all of this stuff there with the kids, since it was all bought for them. The laptops I bought here, and took out of the packaging and in my hand luggage. My plan if challenged at customs was to state that it was my personal laptop, and I would be taking it back to the US with me. I went through the "non declare" line at customs on each trip, and never got challenged on anything.

The few times I've mailed parcels to Brazil, they've been held up in customs, and required significant duty to be paid. So I don't recommend mailing parcels if you can avoid it.
