This is what some people used in Bosnia when there was no electricity - the lucky ones who had a phone line. I think they could only use it to get the radio on (news reports were very important at that time).

I already have some LEDs in service. I'm waiting for the 60W equivalent to get cheaper and I'll switch to all LED eventually.
