I brought my fiancee to a SS Office and they said she should receive a card in two weeks. They took a photocopy of her K-1 visa from her foreign passport and I filled out the one page form.

It was painless.

We did the same thing... We had an entire dossier prepared should they need it. It seemed painless until today!

I would NEVER, EVER, discount ANYONE's personal experience in dealing with a SSA employee, but..

Did you read my stuff, here, in this topic?

I did... I was prepared to leave at the first sign of problems at the SS office when I went early in February. I even called ahead to "prescreen" the reps to make sure she knew what the heck she was talking about before I went to their offices.

Now we only get "Contact Homeland Security they require some data" when we call back to SS.. Homeland security says we need to do an INFOPASS..

What the hell could they friggin need?

IMO, i'd go back to the SSA office, have them look her up in the SAVE database, on all names that she's had. smells like something's wonky with her name. USCIS verification is the kiss of death. get back there, talk to a supervisor.

DO NOT CALL - go in person.

imo - bring all, go back to SSA office, talk with supervisor.

Having 'USCIS VERIFICATION' needed (or DHS verification) is a silly process.

A supervisor can get it done in either 20 minutes or 1 day.

For a clerk, it gets done in batches , and never pay attention to timing - they not have god access to the computer.

'get it done' - here, means to 'do stuff' with the DHS electronic system. A supervisor, normally, can do this. A clerk, cannot.

repeat - get back to that SSA office.

Just to give an update. I went back to SS, spoke to the same lady and she was nice enough to tell me that Homeland Security's Birthdate didn't match the birthdate on his application. Had to do an INFOPASS, because USCIS/Homeland Security would tell us jack on the phone about how to fix it.. so 2 hours down to Charleston, for 3 seconds of "Oh, you need to stop into any airport and have customs correct their data entry" Apparently the officer at POE typed the wrong birthdate. At least in this ONE case, SS was helpful..

I guess we should have waited a few days longer?? The woman that helped us at SS was knowledgable and helpful, she told us "no problem" we would receive it in about 4 weeks. I was surprised to receive the call today that Homeland Security needed something more.

Did she say immigration needed something from you or just more information. I would bet that they want to see a copy of the immigration document and the G-845 needs to be submitted. If that's the case figure on another month.

If the birth date was a mismatch the SSA office has additional procedures to get the verification done without you going to an immigration office. There is a secondary electronic verification request that normally comes back within a week. If the response from that is "submit document" a copy of the immigration document is mailed to the verification office with Form G-845. Figure on that taking another month.
