Hello,

My question is where do you go for the interviews.

I posted a question about K1/K3 and got a response about where I would have to go for the interview .. which I didnt know, as I live in a large Canadian city, and I know there is a US embassy here. I just assumed that I would interview for the K1 here. Today I found out that I could either interview in Vancouver or Montreal.

Now onto the actual question. My fiance is in Dallas, Texas. I have read enough to know that the offices are in Cali and Vermont ( I think O.O ). But does this mean that my fiance, when he needs to go for his interview, will need to go to one of these centres or will he be going to a Dallas office ?

I just hate when you think you got your ducks in a row, and a hiccup comes along. Grrrr

The USC submits a petition to either California or Vermont. Vermont is the center for residents of Texas I believe. The USC does NOT get interviewed.

When the petition is approved then the case file goes to the nearest US consulate that performs the visa interviews for your visa type. In Canada it is either Montreal or Vancouver. Once the case file from the USCIS reaches the consulate then and only then are you able to apply for the visa and be interviewed

YMMV

Just to kind of piggy back actually once the petition gets approved by the USCIS it goes to the National Visa Center (NVC) to get approved. Once approved there, they then contact the Consulate that does the interviews for the Visa thats being applied for and then the Benificiary is set up for an interview. Which the USC can choose to attend or not. In most opinions looks better if they do though.

Just so you know, you don't get to choose which consulate you interview at, it depends where you live in Canada (also, there are only 4 panel physicians in Canada so you will have to have your immigration medical in either Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver):

Canada - U.S. Consulates VJ Wiki Canada

There are two consulates which process family based visas in Canada, Montreal and Vancouver.

IR1/CR1/IR5

All IR1 /CR1 and IR5 visas will be processed/interview at Montreal.

K Visas

K visas are processed/interviewed at both Montreal and Vancouver, depending on your Province of Residence:

Manitoba and West: Vancouver

Ontario and East: Montreal

Ok, another question.

I am not a Canadian Citizen. I am a British Subject. I have permanent residency status in Canada and have lived here for over 30 years. I just never bothered to become a Canadian Citizen as it didnt effect my life.

But now that Im reading the process ... do I have to interview in England or will I still be able to interview in Canada, in Vancouver ?

Sure there is no problem with that at all - as long as you have legal residence here (which you do!) you can interview here :)

One thing to consider, you will probably lose your Canadian PR if you live in the U.S. for a long period of time (ie: you must spend 730 days in Canada within a 5 year period).
