Turkish girl, 16, 'buried alive by her father because she had friendships with boys'

Hundreds if not thousands of sites like this, couple of guy rape a woman, claim she enticed them, she can't appear in court to defend herself, two guys go free, she gets stoned to death. Others where daddies killed or had their little girls killed. This has been going on for over a thousand years. If they don't like it, they can change it. But why do we have to sacrifice our young people and money in a fruitless attempt to change their ways. Only making more enemies by even trying

I caught all four of my daughters at one time or another kissing boys, just said please, marry and support them so I won't have to. You don't even have to give me a couple of goats either, I will pay for your wedding, just a one time charge to become free of this responsibility.

Apparently, these people have a different outlook at life, so be it, I don't give a damn. But seems like a waste to kill a daughter after you spent all that time and money to bring them here and raise them, just because they do what is natural. You may even get some nice grandkids in return.

The case has caused outrage in Turkey and reopened the debate over so-called honour killings which are particularly prevalent in the predominantly Kurdish south-east of the country.

Such killings are usually decided by a council of relatives which consist of the elders of the family.

Official figures state there are more than 200 such killings a year, around half of all murders in Turkey.

One commentator wrote on the website of a religious TV station: 'The punishment for whosoever should kill with intent is the hell where he will languish forever. Allah has cursed him and prepared great pain for him

'You named your daughter after the holy city of Medina but your mind is left over from the earlier Age of Ignorance.'

Fair to say that in This case under discussion, the religion of the family was Islam?

Tell you what I wont apply for a diplomatic position if agree to stay out of the costumer service department. ;)

No I dont think there doing "everything they can". I often think the world is too worried about stepping on toes and stop short of doing "all they can".

If you mean by 'stepping on toes' not interfering with other sovereign governments, then yes, I think the world often does worry about that, and rightly - unless you enjoy war

Not a fair comparison, in the US we hold them accountable and give stiff sentences. This can not be said for Turkey, this is my issue. In Turkey many look the other way or try to convince us that it was a suicide knowing dam well it wasn't.

You know Turkey does not and will not give the perpetrators of this crime a 'stiff' sentence?

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

One thing that fascinates me about this discussion is that the same posters debating a murder by people identified as Muslim by association with the majority faith of the country do not attach a stigma to a faith shared by non-Muslims who murder their family members in the US. Everyday there are countless articles about parents killing their children or SO, and, while these are condemned, no credence is given to religion in these killings, but it is assumed when Muslims kill. That assumption taints all Muslims as casual potential murderers, or, makes them less than devout because they don't kill, as their faith must call them to do. It also assumes that we can do what you fail to do yourselves - stop murder.

I'm a fan of correctly identifying WHICH SECT of Islam these 'honor killers' belong to, then making changes in 'that sect' via the Mullahs and Imams.

But if 'that sect' isn't going to be identified, well, sorry - #### all.

They took the trouble to investigate the crime and arrest the perpetrators who are now in Jail waiting trial. That doesn't seem like the actions of a government turning the other cheek to me.

Sad and pathetic I must say Nizzy, I see what your doing but tell you what if we treated pedophiles the way they treat these 'honor killings' I tell you what I would demand change too and be totally disgusted with our gov.

I am not saying that something should not be done about it. It pisses me off. But when reading your post, it made me think of the problem here with pedophilia and kids in the news being kidnapped and molested. I think something should be done here in the U.S. because many of these pedophiles are repeat offenders even after our wonderful justice system has their way with them..anywho...that's all...now back to Babycorner I go...

I agree, big problem with repeat offenders and I believe theres more we can do to fix this problem. I just dont think it does any good to point out pedophiles here when were trying to address the problem of honor killings

On a daily basis I continue to address the leaves in my backyard and yet I manage to still go to work everyday. ;)

To act like I shouldnt complain about the 'honor killings' because we have pedophiles here in the US is ridiculous.

That's not the argument at all. It's clear that you have a kind heart and want to help, that's awesome. Just realize that sometimes this "help" is unwanted and useless and will really make no difference - probably only be more harmful and cause more hatred towards those people who are accused of interfering and meddling , the change must come from within that specific family, and communities wherever in the world they are, not some outward persuasion and pressure from people with a "better than thou" attitude about their culture and religion.
