I agree.

Sometimes my Canadian friends/family talk about how "ignorant" Americans are, and they're the ones being ignorant.

I like it here and I don't plan on going back home... ever. I used to hold on to that, I did. The thought of going home, but this is my home now and if people can't accept that.. pluck em.

Yeah. My mindset is that my move to the U.S. will be a permanent one. I can't see how or why it wouldn't be, barring the breakdown of our marriage or the U.S. becoming a fascist state...

Yeah, generalizations! So freaking annoying.

Guilty? Absolutely not. Nor do I feel that my personal process has been all that fast or easy. While going through the K-1 I saw individuals from most of Europe and from South American countries who applied after I did get approved before I did - and that was for the NOA1. Mine went outside of the expected processing dates and we were seriously questioning whether this was a 'sign from God' that our relationship wasn't meant to be because everyone else was getting processed before we were. It took nearly two years to process my AOS, and again, others from countries other than Canada were getting approved sooner and faster than I was. My husband used to joke that Canadians were being specifically targeted by USCIS for slow-down in processing as a protest for Canada's failure to send troops into Iraq. The ROC took a year - although it seems like all of the other VSC filers were also taking a year - no benefit there to being a Canadian - and by the time of the citizenship oath - over 5 years since I arrived in the US - individuals from other countries were getting their spousal based citizenship after 3 years here. Easier because I am a Canadian? Hah. Not as difficult as from some of the targeted countries but being a Canadian added no benefit to the actual immigration process for me.

I feel sorry for those who end up having to wait through the process for whatever reason, and I feel sorry for those who are targeted because of the countries in which they live. But guilty because I am a Canadian? Not for an instant.

Hi Everyone,

Easy? We as Canadians have it easy...Don't think so...

If we had it easy...Then we wouldn't be going through the USCIS at all!

Lol..Oh the money, time, stresses, etc. I would have saved all those years if it were "that easy"!

A lot of Americans seem to think though that Canadians have "instant US citizenship" when one marries an Americans....

Lol..That's how it was 50+ years ago..And many Americans are shocked to find that Canadians have to go through the immigration process too...

But times have changed...And we are all "equal" when going through the immigration process....

First world country, second world country, third world country......Who cares.......We are all "aliens" :alien: to the USCIS!

So no, I don't feel guilty for being a Canadian....We're all the same really when going through the immigration process......

Fees, fingerprints, long wait times, incompentent workers, etc.......

Welcome to the USA = Welcome to the USCIS nightmare!

I don't feel guilty per we but I understand what you are trying to

say HeatDeath.

My process both k-1 and aos has been relatively quick but still

the same expense and regulations as everyone else.

I do feel for those who are put in extra processing and security checks IF thet are innocent.. Just because of the country they come from. It's not right but at the same time I do

understand the need for thr USA to be cautious in who in let's into the

country.

If anything the ones who abuse the system with fraud anger me and realize why I have to go through a harder time than years prior when it was "easy"... You have no

idea how many times I've heard that phrase!

Filed: K-1 Visa Country: Canada
Timeline
After the years of going through so many phases (TN status, to marriage to Green Card, to Citizenship) I realized everyone has pretty much the same path with regards to the marriage part, regardless for the country. I know some people from 3rd world nations that seemed to get it a lot easier then me. Many countries have the Green Card lottery which Canada is excluded from. I knew a girl who came here and immediatly got a green card without ever even visiting the US before in her life and became a permenant resident GC holder because of the lottery. That is who would have the guilt if someone had to have it. I worked my #### off and went through hellish forms and interviews and so on, I don't have one bit of guilt in my body at all...

I have not had it easy at all, and no I don't feel guilty at all. Just hope good honest people maybe able to get to be with the one that they love sooner.

I dont feel guilty at all... my process has taken 3 years AND after my interview I STILL have to send in extra stuff... so no, not really. Cant say my visa journey has been a breeze

Invictus..

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

My K-1 was pretty rough, and any lingering guilt I might have had was eradicated by the abuse heaped on me by the border guard who processed my visa. Do all immigrants flying in on a k visa get grilled about their sexual history? I think not.

The fact that Canada has one of the best immigration processes set up in the world makes me wish that Canada could have some extra benefits from the States in regards to immigration :) While the United States' system can be so corrupt and stupid sometimes, it seems that Canada's is based much more on the individual than the country as a whole. My wife's family will get citizenship in Canada after living there for six years but they couldn't get beyond having to get a work visa renewed every year or so after 15 YEARS!!!

I hope no one feels any guilt as from what I've seen on these boards Canadians actually take longer to go through some processes than those in other non-MENA countries. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense but hey, it is the US Government afterall lol.

My wife has been back since June 5, 2007. Now we're just livin' man, L I V I N :)
