Hi everyone!

I am a citizen of the US and she is a citizen of Norway. I proposed and she said yes!

We have researched and filled out the forms - double-checked and found little errors - fixed errors - and so on. Needless to say, we want to make sure that everything is absolutely correct.

I have a number of small questions that I'm sure have simple answers, but the fear of receiving an RFE over something simple is amazingly powerful. I did use the search function and that did a great job of answering some but not all of my questions.

1. I have the same name as my father. He is Senior, I am Junior. How do I indicate this on my forms? "Lastname, Junior" ?

2. She has a non-English letter in her name, specifically the Ø letter. Is this considered a letter of the "Roman Alphabet" ? Should I put this into her last name field, or should I put the more familiar "O" instead and make a note of it later in the form (Box 16 in the I-129F form) ?

Thank you for your time, and believe me when I say that finding this forum has given us both a bit more peace of mind in filling out the paperwork and the overall process.

You are not Junior unless it's on your birth certificate. You are called Junior as an "identifier" it is not actually part of your name. People might call you say "Chris Junior" but it is NOT your name. My brother has the same first name as my father but he has never been called "Junior" and is instead referred to by his middle name. For the same reason my brother wouldn't put his "middle" name as his name, you wouldn't write junior. It's irrelevant. (technically my brother is Junior junior as our grandfather ALSO had the same first name)

2. She has a non-English letter in her name, specifically the Ø letter. Is this considered a letter of the "Roman Alphabet" ? Should I put this into her last name field, or should I put the more familiar "O" instead and make a note of it later in the form (Box 16 in the I-129F form)? The "roman alphabet" (previously called the latin alphabet: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin_alphabet) is ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVQXYZ. As you can see that letter your said is in her name, ISN'T part of the roman alphabet. For that reason you would write her name as she would if she were at home in box 16. This is most likely because her birth certificate, and any other documents from home will have THAT name and not her "anglicised name". In the US it's unlikely that her official documents will be written in her native language/alphabet but I don't know that for sure 'cause I can't say i've ever asked anyone

Thank you for your time, and believe me when I say that finding this forum has given us both a bit more peace of mind in filling out the paperwork and the overall process.

Thank you for the quick response :)

Regarding her name - That makes sense, and I'll change my I-129F and other forms to reflect this. I wish the paperwork instructions were a bit clearer

Regarding my name - I checked my birth certificate.. and it actually does have " Jr." next to my last name. So apparently that is my legal name... however, that might just solve that question, seeing as I can put that in the box and it will be consistent with the name on the birth certificate.

That gives me a plan, at least - does anyone else have more information on how to handle this?
