It is not "OK" to take someone else's groceries.

That's what an Evansville man may have learned Thursday night after his arrest outside Simpson's supermarket at 1356 Covert Ave.

According to a police report, Robert Wright, 40, was arrested by an off-duty officer for allegedly stealing $7.11 worth of groceries from Terry Sue Betz, 53.

Betz told police she had briefly put down the bag at the front of the store around 8 p.m. and when she returned it was missing.

A store security camera showed a man, later identified as Wright, picking up the bag and walking out to the parking lot.

Police say after a chase in which the sack was dropped Wright told them he thought it was "OK" to take groceries if someone left them.

He is in the Vanderburgh County Jail with no bond pending a court appearance.

People are hungry, I guess.

There MUST be more to this story if the guy is in jail without bond over $7 worth of groceries.

And why did she just leave her bag on the ground outside the store anyway?

Depends. I had a neighbor leave a bag of groceries in front of our apartment building for several hours. Eventually, I picked them up and put them in my apartment. A neighbor shows up hours later asking if I got his stuff. I gave it to him and he thought I should have just left it in front the building where anyone could get it.

Dude was an oddball who had the habit of screaming on the phone "WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?!" and banging pipes.
