Apple Valley teen faces charges after selling candy to undercover officer; passed off Skittles as ecstasy

(Created: Monday, January 4, 2010 4:20 PM CST) An Apple Valley teen who sold 200 Skittles candies he claimed were ecstasy pills to an undercover officer faces criminal drug charges.

Christin Marcelle Banks, 18, was charged Thursday, Dec. 31, in Dakota County District Court with a controlled substance crime in the third degree and sale of a simulated controlled substance, both felonies.

The first, and more serious charge, is punishable by as many as 20 years in jail and a $250,000 fine.

Banks was released from jail without bail Dec. 31 and is expected back in court March 1.

A Dakota County District Court complaint provides the following account of the events and allegations that led to the charges:

An undercover Dakota County Drug Task Force officer met Banks Dec. 22 in Apple Valley. Banks agreed to sell the undercover officer 21 ecstasy pills.

The St. Paul Police Department Crime Laboratory later identified two of the pills as ecstasy containing MDMA, a Schedule I controlled substance.

The undercover officer met Banks again on Dec. 30 in Apple Valley to purchase more ecstasy. Banks gave the officer 200 pills he claimed were ecstasy in exchange for $1,500. The 200 pills were later identified as Skittles candies.
