Can I get in on some of this action?

Maybe Craig and I will extend our trip to Montreal for the interview into a mini-vacay instead.

Actually, there is a limit, you are NOT allowed to have MORE than $6,500 in your bank account. So, if you do have $16,500 in there, let me be the first here to extend my helpful hand and tell you I will gladly accept a cashiers check in the amount of $10,000. Of course, I won't charge you anything for my services... just trying to be helpful :lol:

Just a slight correction, if that is the poverty line for his household, he must make 125% of that amount, so actually it would be something like $20,640 or so.

So if I make about the poverty line, is there an amount of time I am supposed to have been making that? Like if I just got a job after months of no work, what is the deal?

Thanks!

I think as long as you have proof that is a permanent position and have no intentions of leaving the job and your employer has no intention of laying you off in the future, it doesn't matter how long you've held the position.

BUT, the longer and more stable you are at a position, the better it will look for sure.

That being said, I just applied for a new position and will probably be switching jobs in the middle of the process, so I'm obviously not worried enough about it to hold me back (and I'm a worrier!).

Good luck!

Not to my knowledge Devilette. I'm not sure if the requested past Tax Returns are more for just proof of working, or what your actual wage was in the past. I believe it's based on what you make now, hense the letter they want from your current employer.

I think they are just looking for a record of work history with the Tax Returns, although I'm not 100% sure about that.

Maybe someone else here has a little more insight, someone that may have actually already been through the interview process.

devilette,

It's not so simple - there's a thing called 'the totality of the circumstances', and you mention only the tip of the iceburg in your post.

Read all about it in 9 FAM 40.41 Public Charge - Notes. Be careful to distinguish between the material that deals with immigration and the material that deals with non-immigrant visas including the K visas.

Thanks Y. I will look into it. More likely I will just get a co-sponsor.

No problem Devilette :D For example I'm probably going to get a co-sponser as well, and my income is way over the poverity line, but I figure the more the better :D

I'm in the same situation, I was in college up until last December. I started my full time job in January. While I worked jobs during college, none of them totaled enough to equal the 125% requirement.

Now though I have a job where my salary is over double the requirement, and the job I'll possibliy be moving to the same. Like I said above, I think in most cases, just as long as the job you hold is considered permanent, you should be just fine. :)

Well, out of what I heard from a lawyer here, in US. If your fiancee is from Ukraine, you can just go there, marry her, and within weeks or one month I think, she will have a visa to get into US. It is only in Ukraine you can do this. My fiancee is from Russia, so close, yet not possible for me.

Mike.
