Hi all!

Not sure if I posted this in the right forum. But since my wife was a CR1 visa holder (she already received her green card) I thought I could take a stab and post here. My wife arrived in the US on 11/19/09. She received her green card 12/10. She has yet to receive her social security card.

Should we go ahead and apply for a new one in the local SSA office? Maybe one reason why she hasn't received it is because its the holiday season. Think we should wait a week more? It might be in the mail and not sure if we can apply for new one.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Does that mean you have already applied for her SSN? When did you do that?

If you have submitted the application, just give it a little bit more time.

I arrived in the U.S. on October 27 this year (through the K1 visa), applied for my SSN on November 10 but was told by the SSA that the USCIS still had to verify the documents I presented to the SSA, then I received a copy of my SSN on December 22. Finally yesterday, December 28, I opened the mail containing my Social Security Card.

Hakuna matata.

God bless us all.

She needs to apply for the SSN at the local SSA office. Best to do it after getting the GC which she now has. Bring the GC and a completed SSN application which you can get off the SSA website. ALso check for other required documents she may need to bring as primary and seconday IDs.

You probably ticked off that block on the DS-230 form, thinking it would get done in a timely fashion. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr - Sorry.

Go into the local SSA office with the greencard, and apply. Good Luck !

Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
