It would be interesting if you could break down how they listed the taxes, vs surcharges vs fees.

Hopefully they did not trick you into purchasing the collision insurance, as most car insurance and/or credit cards (eg, Amex) already cover that.

I actually had a major car accident with a rental. I didnt have the collision insurance and it cost me $700 additionally.

I did not take any optional insurance. I'll try to find the breakdown.

Only a couple are actually government taxes. If they are located at an airport, they may pay a fee of some sort to the airport commission, but it looks like the rest of it is the company trying to make the base rate look competitive when its really not.

They may not be called a 'tax' but they really are.
