I have a question regarding line #22 of form DS-230 which states, "List below all employment for the last ten years"

My wife has not had steady employment since 2007 during which time she has been living with me and taking care of our son. Should I write in the first line under 'employer' -- none... and then in the job title write 'housewife' or 'homemaker' and include the dates???? Or should I just begin the first line with her last official employment back in 2007???

Also, the line below asks "In what occupation do you intend to work in the United States?" what should I write?? We don't have anything officially lined up for her when we get to the states. Should I leave the line blank or write "not sure yet" as I read in a sample form online???

Finally, regarding the Thai Police Clearance Certificate... those of you that have lived in Thailand I am sure are familiar with the shady way in which things are done around here. On the instruction form it says that there is "No fee for police clearance service" and that it takes 2-3 weeks to receive. My wife has spoken to a friend that has been through this before and she paid the Thai police 3,000 baht and received the certificate in 3 days. My wife thinks that we will probably end up forking over some money under the table in order to expedite things, otherwise, as she thinks, it may take much longer than 2-3 weeks.

Appreciate any help on this. Thanks!!

Immigration visa for spouse (K-3)

Why you filling out a DS 230 then? Plus where does your wife live with you? In the US?

K3 is a nonimmigrant visa.

On Line 32 of the DS230 you could just put homemaker from 2007 to present and start with 2007 to list the employment on the second line. Don't get so worried about this section, I think even if she never worked, your situation would be fine, since you already live together.

for the next section, I suggest simply writing homemaker again, because your situation is clearly one in which this has been the arrangement successfully for the past 2 years.

these questions are more geared towards employment based immigrants.

the police clearance question will need to be answered ny someone more familiar with the "gifting" protocols in Thailand,,,I know it works well in Philippines.

Good luck !

Why don't you do a DCF [CR-1]. Lot faster. If you can't. Don't do a K3. They are obsolete. Do a CR-1.

My question exactly... If you live in Thailand you would be better served to do DCF if possible... Also, I am not sure why you chose K3 as its use is pretty much obsolete since the processing times are nearly the same and it has the benefit of getting the GC upon entry with no AOS, be able to work, drive etc...

I would seriously look into the CR1 and compare the two, (there is an entire wiki section dedicated to this as well as NUMEROUS postings as to the benefits)

Not sure how the gifting works and I would declare her as a homemaker

10/14/2000 - Met Aboard a Cruise ship

06/14/2003 - Married Savona Italy

I-130

03/21/2009 - I-130 Mailed to Chicago lockbox

11-30-09: GOT GREEN CARD in mail!!!!!!

Citizenship Process;

1/11/2013: Mailed N400 to Dallas Texas

3/11/2013: interview.. Approved

4/4/2013. : Oath! Now a U.S. citizen!

I just completed the initial petition and filed it with the USCIS which was approved. I was then mailed a 'package', or rather a letter, from USCIS stating that the petition was approved under the classification CR-1. I also received a letter from the US Embassy with a website address to download all of the required forms from the Embassy's Immigration Visa website. It too states the Preference Category as CR1 - Thai.

I have not read anything on these documents a classification as K-3... but from researching this online the spousal non immigrant visa is commonly referred to as K-3.

I also have not chosen to fill out any of these forms but had to download them from the website included on the letter:

http://bangkokusembassy.gov/immigrant_visa/iv_packet3.html

Sorry guys... this is all very educating for me. Not sure what "DCF" or "AOS" stands for.... "GC", I am guessing "Green Card". I will look those up here in a bit. Any word on the police clearance certificate???

Thanks!!!

DCF is Direct consular filing. You file everything to the embassy not to NVC [National Visa Center] DCF is a LOT faster. You can't do a K3 doing DCF.

You have to have lived there for 6 months to do DCF.

If the embassy mailed you anything at all it sounds like you are doing a DCF.

K3s don't fill out DS230s.

I did the K-1 but the form is the same DS-230 I think I listed student and put my college years in there and then put unemployed and had no problems at whatsoever. You should be fine putting her as unemployed/homemaker and listing her previous jobs.

I think K-1 and K-3's file similar forms, and for K-1 it's the part I of the DS-230 only. You could be confusing 'cus this is handed in at the consulate interview, not when filing for the K-3.

"I think K-1 and K-3's file similar forms, and for K-1 it's the part I of the DS-230 only."

You thought WRONG!

Very few embassy's require a DS 230 form for K visas. Mostly DS 156, DS 156K and DS 157.

DS 230 is a IMMIGRANT visa aplication.

DS 156 is the NONIMMIGRANT visa application.

Everyone's posts are really helping. So I am in the process of completing the DS-230 form for a Immigrant Visa, or CR-1... all of the papers say Immigrant Visa. There was a bit of confusion there.

Okay, next question. Back to Line #22... should I include something such as "unemployed" if there was a lapse in employment when my wife was neither employed nor a homemaker. She did not work for about 7 months in 2007... should I include this????

Also.... just for clarification and certainty.... I did read on a previous post regarding line #23 educational institutions attended, to start from high school, right? I saw on an sample form online someone just wrote the name of the university attended, so I am just wanting to be clear that I start from HS.

Thanks for all your help everyone!!
