I'm mailing my I-485/I-130 package today. Wondering if USCIS (Chicago office) accepts personal checks? It seems like it does on it's official website:

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD

but I've seen many people saying it stopped accepting personal checks, and only accepts money orders or cashier checks now.

Does anyone know if USCIS (Chicago) accept personal checks for marriage based AOS application?

Thanks a lot!

I sent only ever personal checks and they have always been accepted. Unless it changed since october 2009 which would be a VERY fast change for uscis lol.

Iv never heard they stop accepting personal checks, only ever hear that it is prefered to send personal check over other methods.

Yes they do - I used one. (in the last 3 months)

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Thanks a lot guys!

I saw it on this page: http://www.alipac.us/ftopic-130414-0-days0-orderasc-.html

but I didn't read it carefully, it's Phoenix office. Maybe only this one doesn't accept personal checks.

Oh, and congratulations to Inky on your green card!

Yes they do.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip
