Just an FYI for anyone wanting to stay overnight in London before their interview and needing a cheaper hotel = When I went in March I used Active Hotels - UK and they had some pretty good rates. We stayed at the Shastesbury Premier Notting Hill and got a room that was usually closer to £200 per night for £79, and £15 for breakfast if we wanted a full English. The room was small, but had a VERY comfy bed, nice furniture, etc. My only complaint was the size of the shower. I literally had to SUCK IN to get the shower doors to close, and I was touching the glass walls on 3 sides while trying to take a shower. Not fun when you're claustrophobic. I did get a great night's sleep, so I can't complain too much.

They've got lots of hotels in London to choose from, and much better rates than I was finding on the more well-known discount sites.

Congrats everyone!

One tip to avoid at your interview:

Make sure your fiance/e pays for the visa! David was never asked to pay for it and he only remembered about it after he had left the embassy! Took us 5 weeks to get the darned visa after that!

Add us to the waiting for interview list! :) Julian mailed out his P3 on the 19th, and he has his medical later this week. Fingers crossed everything will be OK. I told him not to have anything to drink the night before, but he said he doesn't see how one or two pints is going to affect the results. I'm sure some of you know how hard it is to keep your British man away from his beer!

Hey, Marlea! Any news yet?

:( Nope. I called a few times last week and they said they didn't have his stuff yet, but I know it's there. Since you and another person had the experience of getting an interview date after the medical results were due to arrive at the embassy, I will try calling again next week after he goes to his medical. He had to schedule it a few weeks out as he couldn't get away from work before then to get to London. His medical is next Tuesday, so maybe we'll hear something by the end of next week. But, as much as I would love for him to have his visa in his hand now, our wedding isn't scheduled until next April, and he isn't planning on coming over until after Christmas, so there isn't a rush.

Ooh, that's a consideration I hadn't thought of before - them waiting for the medical results to arrive before issuing an interview date. There was a lot of speculation about how the policy introduced late last year to require the medical to be completed before the interview would be enforced...I guess that is one way! Too bad the medical isn't one of the fields in the timeline, you're such a whiz at those that it could be pretty plain if the data was there.

Well, it makes sense. I was looking over the forms again, and although they ask what your travel date is, they don't ask what date your medical is scheduled for. I wonder if there have been a number of people lately who have been trying to do the medical and the interview in one trip to London, which would hold things up. My fiance has to come in from Cardiff, and there are obviously some people who have to travel even further. i.e. Scotland or Northern Ireland. I can see why people may think "well, I'll just go do my medical on Tuesday since my interview is on Wednesday..." or something of the sort, and that would add a lot of extra work on the embassy's end as things would be done out of order (the horror! A bureaucracy having to work out of order!). Maybe this is there way of forcing the issue.
