OK this doesn't make sense to me.

I go through security to get to my flight in the US, maybe twice if I change planes before leaving the US. My plane landed in Japan and I am taking the same plane on to Manila and they make everyone get off while they service the plane for the next leg. I understand that, but WHY do we go straight off the plane into security just so we can go back to the same gate and wait to re-board the plane.

Do they think we have been making bombs or assembling guns on the 12-hour flight there? We have never left a secure area since boarding the plane.

Or do they think we need something to occupy our time while we wait to re-board?

And we got to do the same thing on the return leg from Manila.

Just bored and wondering . . .

At Narita?

How long is the layover? You're bound to catch some American actor coming or going to an Ad shoot in Japan. The food courts aren't that bad either.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I've had this happen to me in Toronto.

Boarded an El Al flight at LAX destined for Tel Aviv. The plane stopped in Toronto to pick up passengers. We needed to disembark in Toronto, clear Canadian customs/immigration, go through security, and reboard the same physical aircraft to continue on to Tel Aviv. That was about 6 years ago.
