Question... K-1 Visa couple

We were married on November 7th in the USA and had to wait for our marriage certificate to go to the Social Security office for the name change (She has a Social Security card with her maiden name on it). It looks like we are in the 15 day window on her visa and they told us she needs to get her Chinese passport updated. Basically, Homeland security has a hold on it because it's less than 15 days before her I-94 expired. What can we do to overcome this issue?

Thanks in advance,

Ron & Lisa

PS. AOS (I-485) will be in the mail next week (I-693 is holding us up)

IMO - NOTHING until the EAD or GC arrives.

Sorry.

Once yer in the 15 day window - SSA wants documents that you've NO WAY TO PRODUCE.

File AOS, and wait.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Stay away from the SS office until you have a green card or EAD with her new name on it...preferably a green card. There is no need to change it before then.

We waited till my wife received her EAD card. Even then the officer told us that she was not showing up as authoried to in the system and had to undergo the manual verification, which can take upto 8 weeks. In the meantime she has received the GC, but after 5 weeks, still waiting on the new SS card.
