Interview for Parents

Hi Everybody

My parents are scheduled for an interview. We had filed their Adjustment of Status in July 2009. Couple of clarifications needed from the team here.

1) My moms fingerprints turned out to be fine, however my dad had to go to fingerprints twice and even then a 'fingerprint rejected' notice came. Then we got an interview notice for may dad and he has been asked by the field office to provide a police certificate from the townships where he has lived in the US in the last 5 years. Unfortunately, our township does not issue 'Good Conduct' certificates (read no arrest records etc) if the person has not lived more than 180 days in the town. Since this is the first time my dad has stayed for more than 6 months, they issued a letter for only this trip. We could not get any certificates for his previous stays with us (each one of them was shorter than 6 months). Is this ok ? Does anybody have any experience in this regard

2) My Parents have been given 2 different interview slots (one right after the other) - I found this odd - since I thought that both the parents are typically called in together for an interview. Any experiences you could share in this regard would be helpful. Like what are the typical questions they ask in these kind of cases (adjustment of status in the US for parents)

3) As a petitioner for their I-130, can i accompany them during their interview? My parents can speak and understand English, however sometime the accent throws them off. Do you think the officers would let me accompany my parents during their individual interviews? Any suggestions

I don't think you can translate for them considering you could tell them the answers to whatever was asked...you will have to arrange to bring one and/or if it is a common language (Spanish, maybe French, depends on your area) they may provide a translator. You should call the office before you go.

edit to add: Fill in your timeline, country info, etc. This will help give you more specific answers, or any answers at all!

My friend interviewed in Taiwan and the interviewer spoke to her in Mandarine. I guess it was easier for them both?

So, it may not be necessary to have a translator.
