I have no immediate answers or flippant responses, but....

1. cut the soap bars into 1/8 size back in the workshop, only keep 1 soap cutting in the bathroom.

2. replace all of your dishes with 5 inch tea saucers. Really - ALL OF THEM.

Good Luck !

let her pay the utility bill, maybe this way she will realize how much you're paying, and show to her how much you spent on buying those foods she just wasted and ask her to cook very little  .

Hi there!

im sorry about that... You two should talk about it. She didn't think how important those things are. Maybe for her is not a big deal. Try to explain your point for this matter. But explain that in a nice way that she cannot feel bad when you say that. and if it is possible make her find a job so that she will learn how to be more responsible for herself. It's not healthy for your relationship. Hope too hear improvement for this issue soon! God Bless!!! :star:

The holidays are coming up. Make plans and both of you can go serve homeless people at a soup kitchen. Let her see how good she has it and how life really can be. Things like that have been known to change a person and maybe she can find her calling and do something in the social services field, or start volunteering. It can't hurt to try. And if you have to not tell her and make the little "trip" a suprise, then so be it. Good luck.

Oh great, and risk being exposed to swine flu. Eeeewwww. Pffft!

My sweet little Claudeth is a wonderful, giving woman but is also the most irresponsible person I have ever met in my life. I never seen anyone melt a bar of soap before but she does it. She can plug up the shower drain quickly and just loves to take 30 or 45 minute showers twice a day. She leaves the lights on constantly and the refrigator open all the time. She will fill her plate full of food and eat about 1/4 of it and the rest goes in the trash.

I am totally at my wits end. I have been dealing with this for 4 1/2 years but have made no progress in teaching her conservation. I love her very much and would never dream of getting rid of her but have been thinking of sending her to the Philippines for a visit.

Has anyone else had this problem? I have heard comments off and on but nothing consistant with what my little consumer does.

i think she just never had those things before that why now thats she has almost everything she wants so easy she doesnt give importance to it.

its better to talk about it again and tell her what you feel about it before thinking of sending her to pi because the problem will still be there when she comes back.

you know just like cesar millan in dog whisperer...be a pack leader so the dog will learn. hehehehehe...

she needs to understand that just because she can do something, that does not mean she should. perhaps you should point out that this wastefullness on her part costs money, which curtails her shopping....

my 2 cents:

- use liquid sopa instead of bar soap

- do "light check" everynight before you both go to sleep... assign the task to her. she is not allowed to go to bed without ensuring that all lights are off

- give her a small plate. Though she would fill her plate full, she would be able to consume them.

- tell her to find a job or limit her allowance.

- dont spoil her.

She's sure proving how little respect she has for you.

The question is - how much respect do you have for yourself?

You know, a guy has to press for marriage counseling or some kind of probationary period before he fires a wife. You owe them that because it's a wife, not a girlfriend. But with behavior so childish and disrespectful you have to lay down the law and mean it.

Or else shut up and be a door mat. Not a great set of choices. So sorry about that.

When she does these things do you talk to her everytime about them or just when you finally get fed up? I think if you tell her everytime she leaves a room to shut off the light, she might remember some. It is sure strange for a filipina to act this way, but with constantly reminding them like a little kid, then maybe she will get the idea.

I dont think i will have too much of a problem with Mhay except for leaving lights on. I know she sometimes sleeps with the lights on. I dont know. It is quite strange to me, but that is far less than wasting food. I hope you get this figured out. Maybe taking a vacation to the PI may be what she needs....go with her and see if her behavior changes. I think her family will give her enough criticism for you though if she continues there.

They say bad habits are hard to break so its up to you my friend to do something about it.

Stop spoiling her.

My wife grew up with money but she is the exact opposite of your wife. I thought she will have a hard time adjusting here because she practically grew up with maids, chauffers, and got everything she wanted but she is just so humble. She doesnt use the dryer to save electric and hangs the clothes outside, she buys stuff on sale or buy one take one to save money and of course she works. Myla is very good with lights and she is the who reminds me not to turn on so much light in the house :)

4 and 1/2 years...thats a long time and still a habit..time to cut the cord and be serious.

Removal of Conditions :

August 20, 2010 - NOA1 received

I bet she's a wonderful person but she just really has to learn how to conserve because, with the economy right now, you can't dare to waste a cent. Try to make some rules in your house. Stricter rules which she should respect since you're the leader of the family. It is not gonna be a bad thing because it is for your own family's good. Spoiling your wife is nice but you gotta draw a line where enough should be enough. What she's doing now is wasting a lot of money that your future children can even make a good use of. I know a lot of people like that but sometimes, you just gotta have to do the right thing in your own terms ;) .

4 and a half years... wow!.... Is she helping out with the bills and grocery shopping? Sometimes when people have to pay for things, then they will learn how to appreciate it better.

She is helping to make the bills
