Fiancee not previously married

Hello all,

Our K1 application is currently at the embassy in Moscow. My fiancee wrote me that she heard that a certificate stating that she had never been married was required for the application. I looked at the embassy website and didn't see any mention of such a thing. Only mention was of proof of termination of a previous marriage. Do they take your word for it if you say you were never married?

Thanks, Ryan

That's sort of what the 'free to marry' statement is for (required at petition and interview stage). I believe some countries have some kind of a certificate that proves that, but I don't believe it is the norm by any means.

Yeah a CENOMAR, certificate of not married, is required for K1s at US embassy Manila in the Philippines.

Don't know about Ukraine tho.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

!! ALL PAU!

there is no such document needed for Moscow (or Kiev either for that matter)... There marital status is indicated in the "propyska" if they want to verify.

Moscow does not require the CENOMAR certificate. All the requirements are posted on the U.S. Embassy at Moscow's website. Plus your beneficiary should get a checklist of required forms, but like I said they are all on the website.

If you have any questions for the embassy you can e-mail them and they usually get back to you in 3-4 business days except if there is a US or Russian holiday they are closed.

Make sure your beneficiary fills out the DS-156K Russian language form not English. That form is also found on the website.

Good luck!

No such thing for Moscow or Kiev. I am not sure if they take our word for it, or if they have some way to check, but you do not need to provide any such document.
