Is anyone actually doing their job out there <echo> <echo>

I have a serious lack of confidence in call agents (I used to work at a call centre) so this is what I do: 1) Call in with my request. 2) Wait for about 2-24 hours and call in again with the same request. I get alot of things done that way.

Whoa, Zansgirl. That is totally messed up about your husband and his gf. I'm sorry. (F)

I have a list yes. But I live in Toronto? Do you think she'd have some connections out this way?

It would really make me happy to donate this nice stuff to people who need it. Seriously...

Whoops! For some reason I thought you lived out in Vancouver. Never mind. lol

The Sally Ann used to pick up large items. Maybe give them a call. I think they do an amazing job of helping others.

I'm starting to feel really lost, and having panic attacks.

I just found out I didn't get another job.

I've had a few interviews, but apparently I'm not good enough :(

I'm really worried because my UI isn't going to last much longer, and I don't know where to turn to, or even know if my current job is going to pick up.

I was promised that it would at the beginning of the year....well it hasn't.

Of course, I have been promised a lot of things by my boss that haven't happened.

Like that I would be Full Time by May 2008. I work at most 15hours/week. That I would be making 60-75000 a year. I make like 23000.

Not good :( Not good at all.

It's okay, Krikit! I kinda thought you thought that... I found some womens' shelters and stuff here in TO that I think will pick up my stuff. I am going to check all my plan B's out and see what I can find. But t hank you anyway... no need to blush -- you were being very sweet.

Don't give up hope, J&K. It will turn around for you. You have to go to a lot of interviews before you find the right fit. I hope it is right around the corner.

Do you like what you are doing now (even if it isn't enough hours)?

I WANT A JOB!!!!! Or even better than that I want at least a call back so I can sit down with someone and show them I'm not some crazy foreigner who doesn't understand American culture or whatever. I'm an experienced worker..my resume looks good. In Canada I could submit my resume for a job post and get a call the next day. Here? Things I'm qualified for, know I'm qualified for and I get nothing. I hate recessions :(

Don't take it personally, J&K. It takes a lot of interviews to land the right position. Even more in this economy. It'll happen. Just keep plugging away.

Well, you are good enough and something'll be the right fit eventually but at least you're lucky and you have your foot in the door somewhere, right?

Just trying to be positive.

I'm really worried for myself too -- two degrees and working in marketing... I have no idea what work in the US holds for me...

Good luck to you J&K and Beans too...

Nope...hate what I'm doing. Mainly because I'm not formally trained in it.

I've been working for my boss (I'm his only real employee) for 2.5 years and I still feel like I shouldn't be here.

I'm sick and tired of being lied to, and some of the comments he makes to me.

I just wish I could find something else....full time.

I'm usually a very self confident person, but these days it's hard to be.

The panic attacks are mainly to do with money. If I don't make any, I don't know how we'll survive.

I've used Simply Hired before.

Most jobs around me are really industry specific (So I don't qualify). Makes me wish I'd gone into nursing

J&K, dont give up. Finding a job is a full-time job in itself and it will take some time to get your dream job!

My friend lost her job as a post-doc holds a PhD and 5 years of post-doctoral experience. She couldnt find a job for a full year. But she persevered, really lived frugally (she and her husband have 2 girls and her husband didnt make much either), and after a year and a half of temping as a college sub, finally got a contractual work doing research she loves. She was really depressed at one point, and money was very tight and had major concerns because one of her daughters was entering university, but she didnt give up and now does kickass research and publishes in top tier journals!

So just keep applying. The more applications you throw out, the higher your chances. And if you feel like your not updated professionally, maybe consider certification courses that you can take online or at night?

Goodluck!
