i know this is a stupid quetion here ...but wat the hell.....this certificate of non- impediment to marriage........if u have no kid .......it means u dont have to get it right? ( i know very stupid question)

No, it has nothing to do with children. It's some new certificate (they didn't make us get it back when we filed) that states that you're free to marry -either you've never been married before or you're legally divorced.

Yeah for the newcomers...as soon as your man gets here get a copy of the DMV Manual and go online to your DMV website and have him do the practice quizzes over and over (for Henry it felt like school and he was accomplishing something). As soon as your hubby/fiance gets enough US identification to add up to the requisite points, run, as Mindy says to the DMV. Henry used his EAD, K3 visa, social security card, and his passport. They told us the EAD and K3 cancelled each other out because they were "Issued by the same entity". So we then had to get a utility bill put in his name showing our address and with that he got the learner's permit. Did a five hour class and passed the road test. :D

Tony got his Drivers license way before he had his Green Card. I think he had his EAD at the time, but I can't remember if we used it as id or not. He got his permit first (after passing the written test) and had to drive with another licensed driver for 30 days. Then he took the road test (about 30 minutes long) and passed it the 2nd time. He failed at parallel parking the first time  How stupid to fail someone for that!!! What's with the 5 hour class??? That's insane. As for identification, I think he used his passport, birth certificate, Michigan ID, and social security card. No problem mon!

...now what I WILL do is get him a monthly bus pass, and a SMART TRIP card for the metro trains!:D I don't want him sitting around doing nothing, and this way, he can explore the city and learn how to get around on his own while I'm away during the day!

You guys are so lucky you have public transportation nearby. We don't have that here in the suburbs. We did what Mindy and Roy did and bought Tony a used bicycle to ride around.

Okay I keep on getting bad news after bad news. Dwain's dad is now in the hospital he did not eat for a week and is getting really weak. His dad has altimers and Diabetes.

I'm so sorry to hear this sad news (F) Hang in there, my thoughts are with you.

Well.....they can review the DMV guide and take the practice tests but they will not be able to go get a permit until after the EAD and adjustment of status arrives..(At least per Califonia law)...He could not even get a darn DMV ID card with the I-94 so the License is out of the question until he gets the green card....:whistle:

Belly.....I do not think any of us have the extra money for a car or others things but we need to help transition our husband and make him feel like we are trying to work towards that. Even if it means that we save up $1000.00 and buy him a "bucket" that gets him from point A to point B....this will help with job options and allows for some extra income (just like Mindy said)

Wow, sounds like Cali is strict with the drivers license laws :o As for the vehicle situation, I did exactly that - spent about $1800 and bought Tony a used '94 Chevy Lumina. It's not the prettiest car in the world, but it lets him get around and gives him his independance. I had two vehicles when he got here, but I don't drive my car in the winter so we had to get him something. It's lasted him for almost a year now and all he's had to do to it are replace the brake pads and (recently) buy new tires for it because the tires were getting bald and he had one blow-out the other day. Even if you can't afford another car, like the other ladies said, just having the license is a big step in the right direction. Even for little stuff like running to the video store to pick up a movie by himself - it makes a huge difference in their self-confidence ;)

Sorry, I forgot you guys are already married. I don't understand why your kids would need that certificate? Are they 18 or older? It sounds like if they're younger than that, they wouldn't need it. Maybe someone else can help you out with this. Like I said, a lot of the rules have changed in the 2 years since Tony got his Visa.

Okay I keep on getting bad news after bad news. Dwain's dad is now in the hospital he did not eat for a week and is getting really weak. His mom said Dwain is really sad. His dad has altimers and Diabetes. He has big open sore on his feet. We think his days our out number. This is not how I wanted to go back to see my husband. Please keep us in our prayers. We really wish he will get better. His mom is taking it hard since they have been together for 25 years. And she is now living in the country and doesn't want to live alone and Dwain is her only son and he is moving soon.

:help: When we get the Cr-1 Visa can we apply for his aunt (who is really who he calls mom) to move up here to live with us so she won't be alone? I am afraid she is going to fall into depression. When his dad passes there is no more money because they are living off his retirement money I call it. So I am worried.

:crying::crying:

One Luv

Jax (F)

Sorry to hear Jax. Your family is in my thoughts.

Unfortunately based on the information from the state departments web site Dwain's aunt would not be eligible for a family based visa filed by him. Does she any other closely related relatives(siblings for example) that would sponsor her here? I'm just observing that it seems like it takes quite some time for these type of visas to get processes too. Here's the info:

FAMILY-BASED IMMIGRANTS

Tips for U.S. Visas:

FAMILY-BASED IMMIGRANTS

The Immigration and Nationality Act allows for the immigration of foreigners to the United States based on relationship to a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident. Family-based immigration falls under two basic categories: unlimited and limited.

UNLIMITED FAMILY-BASED

Immediate Relatives of U.S. Citizens (IR): The spouse, widow(er) and unmarried children under 21 of a U.S. citizen, and the parent of a U.S. citizen who is 21 or older.

Returning Residents (SB): Immigrants who lived in the United States previously as lawful permanent residents and are returning to live in the U.S. after a temporary visit of more than one year abroad.

LIMITED FAMILY-BASED

Family First Preference (F1): Unmarried sons and daughters of U.S. citizens, and their children, if any. (23,400)

Family Second Preference (F2): Spouses, minor children, and unmarried sons and daughters (over age 20) of lawful permanent residents. (114,200) At least seventy-seven percent of all visas available for this category will go to the spouses and children; the remainder will be allocated to unmarried sons and daughters.

Family Third Preference (F3): Married sons and daughters of U.S. citizens, and their spouses and children. (23,400)

Family Fourth Preference (F4): Brothers and sisters of United States citizens, and their spouses and children, provided the U.S. citizens are at least 21 years of age. (65,000)

Congrats to Kelly and Craig!

So sorry Jax, you're in my thoughts and prayers.

Lakes dad is also in the hospital, with diabetes. He is an alcoholic and has open wounds on his foot, and they finally admitted him. They are trying to save his foot, Lake is really worried if they amputate, cuz he says once they do that, usually no one lives in his country beyond a few months afterwards.

We are still fighting some kind of infestation here, I am beginning to think its some kind of strange parasite they just dont recognize here in America. Lake says he will ask a doctor next time he goes home, see what kind of meds he can get. I wouldnt wish this on anyone, its a nightmare. The dermatologist told us this week its just active dermatitis, from "post-scabies" but its been months, and I wouldnt think we would have any post symptoms this long. My poor moms vision is gradually decreasing by the day.

I am suspecting Lyme or severe candida (yeast infection) or some such odd thing, as symptoms are progressive with all of us. No way I could even work at this point. :(

My nurse called me after a blood test last week, told me to get to the dr, right NOW! My c-reactive protein levels, (I guess they measure infection?) went from 1.8 in March to 24.3 last week. It worries me. Dermatologist wasnt a bit worried tho. Said it didnt mean a thing.

Urghhh! Doctors!

Jill, I would ask for a referral to a specialist;especially considering your you moms condition. Is there a university hospital nearby? Enough is enough.

huh?:unsure: dats weird cuz on my packet 3 it says this"if u have any jamaican resident children who will be accompaying you who are aged 18 or older, each such child must present a certificateof non-impediment to marriage issued by the registrar general department on security paper" i wll cal the embassy tmrwo jus to make sure. It sounds like if they're younger than that, they wouldn't need it. Maybe someone else can help you out with this. Like I said, a lot of the rules have changed in the 2 years since Tony got his Visa.

This is what I found: Accompanying children have to be unmarried and under 21(from the state dept. website: Remember that in immigration law children must be unmarried and under 21 years of age.)

So if you have accompanying children over 18 and under 21 they have to have the certificate of non-impediment to marriage to prove they are unmarried.

Good morning (F)

Good morning all!! I just dropped in to wish everyone a good day! Jax, I'm so sorry about Dwain's father...I have a friend (29 yrs old) who's struggling with the same issue with diabetes...she's actually lost consciousness on several occasions, and most recently lost consciousness while driving and ended up running into a parked car and continuing to drive a little further in a parking garage!! It was so scary to get the phone call....diabetes is such a serious, debilitating disease, and the ramifications can be monumental!! I will pray for your family!

Jill- I don't know exactly what kind of infestation/disease you're fighting, but I definitely agree that you should seek specialist attention IMMEDIATELY!! If there is a research hospital in your area--RUN to it!! Those kind of hospitals especially are always on the look-out for less common afflictions, etc. I will keep your family in my prayers as well! (F)

Shemanya-If you read this 2day--It was good talking to you last night!! You're a trip!! We definitely need to meet in person soon!! :P

Good morning all,

Thanks for your concern all. I havent really said too much on here, but we have pretty much already exhausted almost every avenue. I called the health department, the extension office, the entymology department, the university hospital, our regular doctors, the derm, eye doctors, opthalmologist, etc.

The darn dermatologist even said "Maybe we have Morgellans" then when we went in, said the folks that have that are delusional. I am not so sure they are delusional, you DO know when something is biting you, for pity sake. Just because we never really had too many parasite infections in the past, doesnt mean with all the world travel now that we are not immune. And just because it microscopic and you cant SEE it, doesnt mean it isnt THERE! Sure would be easier if we could see the darned things.

Then I started doin more research and its totally scary what the genetically modified food has come up with and done. Dang. Did you know that they just started to insert E coli bacteria into the genetically modified spinach to kill off bacteria and bugs???? Kind of makes you wonder about this outbreak? They made it very clear that it was NOT the organic spinach that carried the E. Coli. Hmmmmm. Its no wonder our immune system isnt able to fight things off. You try to be healthy by eating greens and wham!

I think we should join Europe and some other nations and ban the stuff. Well, better get off my soapbox.

Later all.

Jill

Good morning family.

Belly's Girl - I felt the same way about the driving license but now wishing we acted sooner because - if you a non-US citizen you have to make an appointment in Maryland (Damien called in August for a December date so it can take months) so they can view all of your immigration paperwork. If you pass the driver's permit then you have to wait six months before you can apply for your license. Then you have take mandatory driving lessons - two weeks in the classroom and six hours on the road. That was a problem because of Damien's work schedule but he worked it out. He passed the written part in July and the road classes last week. He FINALLY got his certificate so now he has to go to MVA (Maryland's DMV) and take the road test. I've been trying to call all week so see if he needs to schedule an appointment. I think Maryland have the worse driving license laws. But at least he's almost at the end of the road - I hope.

Hi all

I'm kind of new to the site and so relieved to see this thread. Sent of I-129F 9/1/06 and I already have approval (Vermont SC). But now what happens? I can't sleep, I can't eat, I can only dream of paperwork and what to expect and how to be completely and totally prepared. I hear that if I fed ex the original 797 to my finace in JA, he can bring it to the embassy and get "the packet", but do I have to wait to know the NVC sent the file to Kingston first? I'm jumping out of my skin...

Ann

Welcome to the site Wynter!!!

That is amazing....you got approved in less than 3 weeks!!! WHOA!!!:thumbs:

So...you need to wait until your case is received at NVC (National Visa Center) and they forward it over to Kingston...usually about 2 weeks from today. Once Kingston gets your case, you have two options:

1. Wait for them to mail packet 3 to your fiance

2. Have your fiance go pick up packet 3

You do not need to give him the approval notice but I would download the form DS230 and complete it for him and fed-ex a completed copy for him to turn in to the embassy. He will just sign it and turn it in. He needs to turn in the DS 230 after he gets packet 3 so that they can schedule and interview appointment for him. My husband picked up packet 3 one day and dropped off the DS230 the next day. They would not let him pick up and drop off the same day...:whistle:

But Now things move fast so your fiance needs o get all his things in order. He needs to get the no-impediment form from the Registar Generals Office. He need to order a police certificate clearance from Kingston. He needs to get a valid passport and updated birth certificate. He need to gather all of his immunization records and get about 12 passport photos.

You will need to get 3 years tax returns, a letter from your bank with copies of bank statements, an employer letter showing your salary, copies of your paystubs, complete the I-134 and have it notorized, get more evidence of your continued relationship......

So...you both have lots of work that need to be done and I would go ahead and get started gathering everything now.

Good luck!!!

I agree with all the others about getting a drivers license as soon as possible. I know almost EVERY second or third shift job here REQUIRES one, NOT because they have to drive to have the job, but they want to make sure someone can get to and from work.

The custodian job he has now required a drivers license, and its sure not any driving involved. I noticed when he was looking that they have that as a requirement here on about 3/4 of the jobs, and almost every job that was an alternate shift. It surprised me, as it never used to be a requirement.

If its in a place where there is a great public transit, perhaps that wouldnt be the case, but it sure is here in the midwest.
