I just called NVC, to check on our package, and I think I have made a huge mistake.

Sort of difficult to explain.. My SO was born on October 3, but his birth was not registered until December 3.. so shows December 3 as his date of birth. We listed December 3 on all the papers as this is what his birth certificate shows.

When I called NVC I forgot and said the date of birth was October. They told me I had the wrong birth date and when I realized what I had done, and tried to explain the situation, the person on the phone told me that if the date of birth is wrong I need to send a corrected copy of his birth certicate and ask to have it changed.

All records in Turkey show 12/3... He won't be able to get one with 10/3.. and now I am wondering if they have made a note of this in their file and it is really going to screw us up!!!!

I am panicking a little bit!

I will call again tomorrow! His actual DOB is October 3rd.. which is what I told them on the phone, but his BC says December 3rd because that is when his parents registerd his birth. All forms say December 3. I also included a copy of his BC with our I-129F packet.

When I realized I had made a mistake, I explained to her that his actual birth was 10/3, but his BC says 12/3 because that is when his birth was registered.. I probably just should have said "OOOPS.. I meant December", and let them think I am a complete idiot. She said if the BC is wrong that I need to get it corrected and send them the information to correct everything on the application.

We can't do that.. all records in Turkey show 12/3.

So, I am wondering if they would have made a little note in the file saying DOB is wrong and needs correction.. or Fiance is an idiot and doesn't know his date of birth.. or some other such thing that is goign to put us into AP... and if we have to get a new BC.. it isn't going to happen.

I am hoping the NVC operators are simply contract employees answering phones and looking up data... and not able to make notations on the case, etc.

I wouldn't try to explain anything to them. Just try to call them again with the DOB on the birth certificate.

Agreed. I'm not sure how you can fix it anyway if his birth certificate shows Dec 3rd. They would just have to 'take your word for it', which is not something USCIS really does. LOL.

You may just have to have Dec 3rd as his DOB going forward for immi purposes- unless you can somehow get his birth certificate corrected (which it sounds like you can't). You'll just want to be sure to be consistent on all other documents once he gets here - SSN, marriage certificate, driver's license, etc. It sucks but I'm not sure what else you can do.

I wouldn't worry about this little problem. If you have provided the proper documents, then NVC won't be inclined to stop the process. Unless his name pops up on some watch list, I wouldn't worry. In many countries the paperwork is a little difficult to establish and unless you are trying to change something that is already documented I would leave it alone. What difference will it make if his actual birthday is in October and the documents all say December. Just consider it like a spelling error and leave it alone.

K-1s are generally not entered into the automated system, so this is probably a non-starter.

Improved USCIS Form G-325A (Biographic Information)

Form field input font changed to allow entry of dates in the specified format and to provide more space for addresses and employment history. This is the 6/12/09 version of the form; the current version is 8/8/11, but previous versions are accepted per the USCIS forms page.

I am panicking a little bit!

1st mistake...attaching a copy of his birth certificate to the petition, it wasn't needed.

2nd mistake...calling NVC. Why?

3rd mistake, talking to an NVC operator that has nothing to do with the process and knows nothing.

Let the petition go to the consulate and then make you interview date. He can correct the error at the interview, you do not need to send anything to anyone.

You do not need to call tomorrow unless you want something else to panic about from the uninformed operators. Yes, the NVC operators are the same uninformed individuals that answer the phones for USCIS, when they don't know an answer and it isn't in their menu, they make one up.

Your petition will be forwarded to the consulate, calling will not make it happen any sooner, it will only confues and frustrate you. Any minor errors can be corrected at the interview.

Brain fart.

we all get them, with increasing frequency as we get older. His birthdate is not a "material" piece of information, meaning it would have no affect on whether a visa is issued or not. Such information can be changed at the interview. I made two errors on forms, one birthdate and one date of employment (hey, give me a break I was doing three of the damn things at the same time! LOL) and we just lined it out, corrected it and initialed it at the interview, not an issue at all.
