I'd take it back. Not everyone.

Those who are lost in life would generally read the bible. They're hopeless people without the bible. I believe it. It defines their manifestation. You take it away from them, they think you're taking away their life. These people are pretty much useless in life.

That's totally uncalled for.

That's a wild generalization. While there may be a tendency for people to gravitate to Fundamentalism because they want the questions of life to be answered for them instead of anguishing over those questions, that doesn't mean everyone looks to religion to answer all questions about life.

I find this odd, the school system here and the whole thing about religion vs science. To me at least the two can and do fit hand in hand. Math for example can explain many, many things. We use it all the time to run models on things that might happen with real data in there those models become more accurate over time as they are tweaked. Math has been used to determine how planets move, rotate... So lets say theres a divine being out there.. whats to say we're not all ants in a giant version of excel

Anyway back home I went to a all boys catholic school, we had "religious education" and we had "science" classes. Two different and too good classes but neither class sought to tell us that the other was wrong just give us the facts as they had them.

Some Fundamental Christians see science as a secular religion and a threat to Christianity because science claims the Book of Genesis is not a factual account of the beginning of Creation. Once they have it in their minds that science is threatening their core beliefs, it then becomes enemy number one.

I'm curious. Who are you talking to on this forum with that line of reasoning because I've never anyone broadly anti-science because of religion?

I'll take living in a nation that amazingly is the leader in science even as the most devote Christian nation in the developed world. You should be promoting Islam since it historically had no problem advancing math and the sciences yet remain terribly backward in many other ways. Israel? Or yeah that place that has relgion and is a leader in science.

The Muslim world has actually fallen behind with Math and Science during modern times because of the dominance of Fundamentalism. Being religious isn't measured by how fundamental people are about their religion. Fundamentalism, by design, rejects any deviation from a very strict and rigid interpretation of their Holy Book(s).

The decline of science in Islamic countries predates the rise of modern radical Islamic movements by centuries. I've never heard say Bin Laden spouting off against science.

True words.

Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction.

-----Blaise Pascal-----

More true words. The worst crimes against humanity were almost exclusively carried out for religious reasons.

Meh. The longer I'm around very educated people (re. science/maths), the more I realize that I'm pro teaching critical/skeptical thought. I know plenty of doctors and engineers that don't have an ounce of sense in 'em.
