Expired picture ID for Biometrics... This might be my last post ever.

Well, seems like I'm proper ####*d. I cannot get a passport and the only ID I have is my birth certificate and an expired picture ID (health card).

I know that they require a picture ID at the biometrics appointment. Can they accept the one I showed at CBP? Even if it is expired? Can I get anything else? I know State ID is out of the question...

I am thinking...Some out of status people who applied for a GC might've had their passports expired. I am saying this because for a passport renewal my country requires proof of legal presence in US. If not-they do not issue you a passport. Therefore, I guess they show up for bios with an expired passport, what else could they have?

Hopefully someone will reply here with some good news for you.

I am trying to figure out if a student ID would work. I have been thinking of taking some classes... I could hit two birds with one stone.

It is a good point tho. People who have overstayed like 5-10 years. Their ID HAS to be expired, how did they deal with this? Please chime in!

You can give it a try. I don't know how that works and what do they need from you, I hope they will not ask for a SSN or for another picture ID!

Another thing...I know for sure that an out of status alien from my country with an expired passport may apply for a travel document if the person wants to return to the home country. It might be the same for you. Why don't you ask the consulate about it?That travel document might have a picture attached to it.

It's not about you really leaving the country , but it might be a way to get a valid document with your name and picture on it!

That is a good idea. I don't really care about the consulate tho. Last time I spoke to them about not having a passport, they were rude and acted as if I wanted to come illegally into my own country.

But I'll give it a try.

The travel document had nothing to do with your status here and they do have the obligation to issue that for you. Why?It's simple: you can not leave this country with an expired travel document. Dig into it, I think it's going to work and I know that they issue it right away!

It would be awesome. It sure would help, but I'm wondering if they issue it to Canadian citizen... Look

Who should not apply for a travel document?

* Canadian citizens or registered Indians under the Indian Act

* Permanent residents with a valid permanent resident card

* Permanent residents in Canada

You can call them and tell them that you want to travel back to Canada and you have only your birth certificate and an expired Health Card, no other IS's or travel documents. Ask them if you need a travel document and how do they deal with that?Even as a Canadian citizen, you can't travel abroad without something that has your name and your picture and it's not expired!

I called the community immigration place I sometime speak to and this is what the very nice lady told me (I would love to have feedback from you guys):

"I don't think it'll be an issue. You will have your appointment notice. You can show them your expired picture ID. They may make you sign something, but I don't think that THIS would hold up the ####### process".

So, what do you guys think?

I went twice to do my biometrics and to be honest, they didn't seem that they were looking to find my ID's expiration date, they just compared the names.

Again-it's my experience. I do not recall reading anything on the bio appointment notice about "expired/non expired ID" either. I will take a look at that when I get home, you made me curious.

Well I looked on USCIS' website and it says "ID"... not "valid ID", which I guess I could use to dispute it. But you're right, they are probably more curious about name than anything else.

Yep, that's what I am thinking. I guess they just want to make sure that they fingerprint YOU and not somebody else.

All I can add here is that they always rely on Govt Issued ID's from either the US or your home country. So college ID cards wont work. I have had the opportunity of visiting ASC's and Local Offices more than normal and they never paid attention to my Expiration dates on my ID's. Unless they are to stamp your Passport, for which your PP has to have a 6 month Validity, all they are interested in is matching your name from the Notice to your Picture ID.
