Hi! I am thinking of asking some people who just recently moved here in US, what make you busy guys?

Share your experiences and thoughts. It would be nice to know that how we are starting to adapt life here, and making ourselves comfortable with our life in our new environment.

To start of....... :luv:

Currently, I am waiting for my green card. After I got my EAD card, I changed my name in my SSN, and took exam for learner's permit (driving). My husband is patiently teaching me on how to drive here. But will get few hours instruction from driving school here afterwards.

I want to know how to drive around here as soon as possible because we live in suburban area which have roughly public transportation. Also, so that I could find jobs to start of which are near to our place without bugging my husband (he needs to take an off from work). I always wanted to work in a coffee house. I wanted to know how to make good coffee because I love coffee.

Anyway, while waiting to accomplish those things, at the moment I make myself busy by making reviewer for me and my husband in getting professional certification.

What kept me busy?

> Marriage life. We are enjoying our time together.

> Lots and lots of Road Trips around and outside of WA. So many wonderful places to explore.

> AOS files, then after we passed our interview, I started studying for my nursing exam.

> Waiting for my license now... just enjoying being a bum for the moment. :D

> Reading the Driver's Manual. No pressure for me to learn driving because public transportation here is everywhere.

> Catching up on TV shows... for now - Grey's Anatomy and Frasier

Before I know it...another day is over. :)

What makes me busy???

>Last month we went for a two weeks vacation in California. Enjoying Los Angeles, Hollywood, Disneyland, played casino in Las Vegas, got the chance to see the great Golden Bridge and ate their best sourdough in San Francisco. As of these days done the written exam in driving moving for the manual exam already. I'm already driving on the busy street and on expressway with my father-in law every night whenever his going to work and my hubby will be out then in an hour from work. They go on same place of work. While waiting for the reciprocity of my license here so I could start to work then, got time to chat with my friends on the phone and surfing the net. Regarding my case so far no follow-up info yet right after the biometric but its okay. I used to do now cooking which I never know since I was young jejeje.

when i was unemployed and done with the aos stuff, i babysat for friends' kids. i honed (or at least tried to) my cooking skills. i organized our things and the husband's overflowing closet. i do the laundry. applied online (which is much convenient) for job postings i found. i visited fellow pinays who live nearby.

and now that i have a job, all i want to is sleep (after making dinner of course)! so enjoy your free time while you can. try to learn something new. :)

Seems like many many Pinay girls get pregnant the first 6 months they come to USA

I guess they don't have much to do, and without work or Driver Licenses it just comes naturally.

Is that the Project Management Professional certification? You're in IT? It takes a lot of hard work to pass that certification.

Hubby passed that certification, too. He also plans to take the CISSP (?) certification but just could not find the time.

First thing I did when I got here was work on our SSN's. Started accustomizing to driving here then got my driver's license soon after getting my SSN. Went to visit my uncle and his family up north as I have not seen them in a few years. When we came back, we discovered that i was pregnant which we very much welcome as we had been trying to have a child for the last 2 years. Paid a visit to Chicago relatives shortly before school started. Right now, am busy being a mom to our 6-year-old and keeping house while reviewing for the medical boards and preparing for our soon-to-be-born daughter.

Hmmmmmm..... first.... having babies is a choice.... and doesn't come naturally because you always have things around to not get pregnant.

Anyway... I am so happy that you guys doing great here.

To those who took examination for professional certification.... Are you familiar with the examination for professional engineer here? as well as professional energy management? I mean, what are the requirements for those examination?

My husband and I wanted to take an examination. But our problem is my credentials, I heard that I need to have it converted to US standard.

Please be free to give "sensible" suggestions.
