Can you get rid of one last name when Removing Conditions

My husband is from Mexico and has two last names. It is quite common for ppl. from Latin American countries to have both the paternal and maternal last names.

When we filed his K1 and AOS paperwork, I kept both of his last names on all forms.

Now, we will soon be filing for the removal of conditions. I was wondering if it's possible to get rid of his maternal last name when we lift conditions.

Is this allowed or is it best to wait until naturalization for this? It's not a HUGE deal, but if it's possible to do without creating much confusion, we want to do that.

Does anyone have any input/suggestions?

I am not sure if you can do it during the ROC process, but even if you could I wouldn't recommend it, since it will only confuse the USCIS. You can easily do it during the naturalization process though, which I would suggest you do.

Good luck,

Mike.

Maybe I am wrong, but don't your GC need to match your passport?

I mean, in order for your husband to change his name (or delete one of the names) I would think he first need to change it legally and then use the new one for immigration procedures.

I also have 2 last names, and on my card it shows my full name (with the 2 last names). But I use only one at professional level, when I travel within the US my tickets only show my first name and very last name, same with bank accounts, etc. So, I can say I only use one of my last names even though I still legally have 2 last names.

Sorry if this is confusing...
