I spoke to him last week, he got me when he called from a number I did not recognize. I gave him 10 minutes, explained why the buy didn't make sense and assumed that was the end of it. But no....

When I get a sales call, as soon as I realize that it is one, I just say "No thank you" and hang up, regardless of whether they are in mid sentence or not. Who ever says 'yes' to a phone sales pitch?

This isn't at home, this is for work. The product they're trying to sell is a good one but we have 2 other products in our portfolio that together do about 95% of what this product does. It might make sense next summer when the existing two products are up for renewal and I told them as much. I expected the reaction to be to not call or email me anymore till then (or shortly before).

Ah ok. I'd make that clear in an email. :)

Tell him if he doesn't leave you the hell alone there's no chance in hell for the sale next summer even if you do need it

That wouldn't be true. If we can benefit from it, I'll have to recommend we eval it for purchase. Regardless of how I feel about the sales staff.

When I owned the cafe I specifically asked for a different sales person after one wouldn't leave me alone

You owned it, it's easier to ask for something like that. For me, that kind of thing would mean engaging our vendor relationship people. I'm not getting into that.

Good point. Just ignore him. They give up eventually.

If you're a sales person and find yourself writing an email with the subject "2nd follow up to my voicemail..." to a prospective customer, shouldn't you just stop?
