I need advice ASAP!

Is the marriage certificate and the marriage contract from a foreign country like Jordan the same document?

The only thing we seem to be able to get is a copy of the entire contract. Is this acceptable or do we need something else? I thought I had this all ready to send back to the states, but now I am not so sure!

You need a certified copy of the record kept by your government that proves you are lawfully married. It must be issued by the government. In the US, it is called the marriage certificate.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Jordan has only religious marriage administered by a local religious authority according to the US Embassy Amman.

In that case, you will probably need to translate your contract in English and notarize the translated copy at the embassy.

The set of the original contract and the translated copy serves as a marriage certificate in the US.

We sent the contract with all the stamps copied too(you know the 800 on the back and front :P) and the translated version. You dont need the certificate although your husband will use it if he is registering your marriage in his family book.

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!
