Immigration Visas for both parents

Hi, everybody,

would somebody help me clear something up, please.

I have both of my parents submitting visa applications AT THE SAME TIME (separate petitions)

I understand that they must submit their marriage certificate

-Must they submit one each (i.e. 1 marriage certificate with mom's application and one certified copy with dad's), so each of them has a marriage certificate with their application, or should I just enclose one original with both applications?

Same question for my birth certificate and marriage certificate

-will just one of each be enough or should I try to obtain certified copy as well? (which will be next to impossible for birth certificate, since I'm not in my country of origin)?

Thank You in advance.

The files for your parents are separate cases. Each will have to have their own certified copy of any document. Even though you may be sending both I-130s for them in the same envelope, their respective files may end up getting separated. If a document is missing, USCIS will not always be aware that there is a second file for the other parent. Also get a third certified copy for their records.

It is not necessary to have a original in each case when filing for both parents. What you need to do is put all the originals in one case i.e. your Moms and then in your Dads case you put a good photocopy with a post-it note saying "ORIGINAL HELD IN NVC CASE # (put your Moms case number in here)" make sure you put a note on every photocopy in your Dads paperwork. That is what I was told to do by NVC and I had no problems with having only one original of each document.

Photocopies are acceptable on original I-130 submittal.

ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS (OR CERTIFIED COPIES ) are required during NVC submittal as part of the DS-230 package.

So, you have some time, yes? Photocopies NOW, get some more originals, then when it's time to submit the DS-230 to NVC, have enough originals (or certified copies).

Good Luck !
