One can routinely get multiple copies of birth certificates (easily as well, especially if you are still in the same town; at least thats true for Pennsylvania and NJ). Similarly, is it possible to have multiple naturalization cert's issued as well?

It didn't bother me to send the original birth certificates of my kids for their passports since I have multiple official ones, but potentially sending my "hard to replace" and "only" cert of naturalization to obtain my passport is rather daunting!

No, they don't issue duplicate Naturalization Certificates, you only get that one. If you want another copy you will have to file form N-565 which has a fee of $380.

I sent my original Naturalization Certificate when it was time to get my passport and they returned it without any issues.

They do allow you to make copies of it for your personal records before you send it off for your passport, but generally no, they don't provide additional copies.
